Job Description

Job Summary:

Focal Plane Engineer is responsible for technical execution of the advanced infrared and visible focal plane array development and production programs from initial proposal to successful delivery. Focal Plane Engineer will analyze performance requirements and identify design opportunities for implementation, and devote to technology advancements, and manufacturing process improvements for high product performance, high quality, and high reliability.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The primary duties and responsibilities are as follows. Other duties may be assigned.

Work closely with Control Account Managers (CAMs), Program Manager and System Engineering to provide overall technical leadership for detailed project planning, effective execution, and close monitoring of project tasks and milestones.

Collaborate with diverse functional teams in material growth, detector fabrication, sensor assembly and performance testing to produce, test and deliver final products that meet specifications and program schedule.

Identify and implement improvements in growth structure, device architecture and manufacturing processes to advance design and production capabilities to maintain technology edge.

Address and resolve manufacturability and scalability issues early in the design and planning phase and provide effective remedies.

Work with Manufacturing Execution system (MES) for execution and tracking of production activities.

Conduct device modeling, analyze performance data, and provide feedback to manufacturing teams.

Contribute to technical writing of whitepapers, proposals and technical reports, and support customer program reviews.

Qualifications & Competencies

To perform the job successfully, an individual should demonstrate the following qualifications and competencies:

Background in electro-optical semiconductor device fabrication, productization and manufacturing engineering processes is highly desirable.

Technical knowledge in any of following areas is a plus: Thin-film semiconductor materials, photodetector arrays, CMOS readout integrated circuit, flip-chip hybridization, and focal plane array assembly and testing.

Effective written and verbal communication skills and the ability to communicate at any level of audience are required.

Experience in technical project management, risk assessment, statistical process control and design of experiments is desirable.

Ability to work effectively both in a team environment and as an individual contributor is required.

Exemplary business ethics and work routine cognizant of safe work practices.

Education and/or Experience

Master’s degree with minimum of five years of experience, or Ph.D. degree with minimum of three years of experience, in Physics or engineering discipline (electrical engineering, materials science, mechanical engineering, or industrial engineering).

Citizenship Requirements

Due to the type of work at the facility and certain access restrictions, successful applicants must be a U.S. Citizen

Salary Range: $89,100.00-$120,230.000

The anticipated salary range listed for this role is only an estimate. Actual compensation for successful candidates is carefully determined based on several factors including, but not limited to, location, education/training, work experience, key skills, and type of position.
