What is a Machinist?

A specialist with automotive machine experience.

Qualified candidates should have a complete understanding of internal engine components and all the machine work associated with rebuilding and repairing engine blocks.

Primary Responsibilities * Capability to run machine tools lathes, milling machines, etc * Being comfortable with precision measurements in both standard and metric measurements * Have a complete understanding on the internal components of engines and engine repair * Operation of a forklift and engine hoists * Being comfortable with the following: boring blocks, sleeving blocks, line bore, deck blocks, cylinder hone, magnaflux check, re-bush connecting rods, hang pistons, install cam bearings, bead blast, as well as being able to press wheel bearings and grind flywheels.

Secondary Responsibilities * Capability to determine and articulate which parts are needed for engines * Capability to talk and recommend to customers a course of action for the job they are having done Physical Demands * Being able to lift up to 75 pounds * Being in a loud environment * Working with heavy machinery Success Factors * Read and write work orders * Good communication skills * Familiarity with forestry and marine engines Essential Job Skills Necessary for Success as a Machinist * Speak and write English (Spanish a plus); communicate effectively and build strong relationships with customers, peers and management * Read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, parts catalogs, and procedure manuals * Use basic math accurately: add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals Prior Experience that Sets a Salesperson up for Success * 2+ years of automotive machine experience Physical Demands The physical demands and work environment described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job, with or without reasonable accommodation.

The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
