Essential Duties and Responsibilities

As a Shop Foreman with BMW of Fairfield, you act as the in-shop general supervisor for the service department production unit(s). This role is directly responsible for ensuring quality repairs and services are performed on all vehicles serviced by Fairfield Automotive Partners, LLC. In addition, the Shop Foreman is responsible for ensuring that all team-related processes remain active and effective.

Punctual and regular attendance.

Maintain Customer Satisfaction Index rating at least comparable to that of the manufacturer, zone, or branch average. Maintain a dealership-prescribed standard for “hours per customer repair order written.”

Luxury brand Shop Foreman experience is highly desired.

Understand and follow federal, state, and local regulations, such as those governing the disposal of hazardous wastes, OSHA right-to-know, etc.

Ensure that all documents are accounted for.

Review the daily workload plan with each Technician

Identify any critical customer issues and develop a plan of action for the day,

Ensure that all carry-over vehicles have a plan to completion.

Identify any unusual parts or manufacturer issues and assist the Technician with taking the appropriate steps to ensure expedited repairs.

Working with the Technicians, ensure that there is a job in every technician’s bay at the beginning of the shift

Ensure that each Technician is well focused on the production needs of the team daily.

Monitor the ongoing relationships in the team. Promote teamwork at all times and guard against individualism within the teams.

Accomplish the forecast that has been established by the general manager and service manager.

Maintain contact with service customers on a timely basis and in a professional manner.

Check job status as often as necessary, but at least twice each shift.

Job Required Skills and Knowledge

Review the shop cleanliness daily and take the necessary action to ensure that the facility remains safe, clean, neat, and well organized.

Ensure the team clears and secures all NPI and related documents at the end of each workday.

Review Technician's area, ensuring that each area is clean, neat, and organized at the end of each shift.

Ensure that all tools and equipment are inventoried, assigned to a specific location, and maintained in the designated location.

Maintain an ongoing review of the tools and equipment, ensuring that all tools remain in good working order.

Assist the Technician with service operation/repair technique training for all team technicians.

Ensure the proper and safe usage of all company-owned tools and equipment.

Assist the Technician to ensure uniform and approved repair procedures are utilized for all maintenance and repair operations.

Ensure that all technicians are up to date on all Technician bulletins and repair procedures.

Develop a training planner for all Service Technicians, complying with all manufacturer’s requirements and considering the workflow and financial requirements of the dealership.

Maintain routine (monthly) Shop Training meetings providing added support to address any specific issues or concerns experienced in the Service Department.

Provide a monthly “comeback “ analysis to the Service Management and all teams. Clearly identify any and all signs of weakness in the training, attitude, and ability.

Maintain counseling, guidance, and training specific to the weaknesses mentioned above—document all training, attendance, and results.

Assist the Service Management with the development of a career path for every technician within the shop. In addition, assist the Service Manager with evaluation, follow-up, and discipline to ensure that the company standards are met.

Provide one-on-one training to Technicians as needed.

Monitor all aspects of the production side (Technician efficiency and productivity)of Fairfield Automotive Partners, LLC.

Schedule maintenance of service vehicles and equipment.

Customer Experience. Pay special attention to the following:

Track all vehicles returning to the Service Department for the second time for the same or similar complaint using the Return Vehicle Log.

Review the repairs and the delivery quality of every vehicle listed on the Return Vehicle log.

Throughout the day, review the documentation of repair orders and service, ensure that all documents meet and or exceed the BMW documentation standards.

Assist each Technician as needed with “Special Circumstance” repairs.

Puma Cases, Factory Reviews, Extensive testing, and diagnosis.

Keep every Technician focused on the importance of every job being “Signature Service.”

Promote the highest quality MPI services on every vehicle.

Ensure that the inspections are consistent in quality and recommendations.

Perform test drives with customers on service drive as needed.

Education, Experience and Certification

High school diploma or the equivalent.

Ability to read and comprehend instructions and information.

At least one year of experience in an automotive repair facility.

ASE certification is preferred.

General mechanical skills.

Excellent communication skills, both in writing and in person.

Professional personal appearance.

The ability to work independently with limited supervision and the motivation to continually increase product knowledge should be evident.

Must possess and maintain a valid driver license.

Must possess and maintain an acceptable Motor Vehicle Record (MVR).

Must be able to sit or stand in a stationary position for extended periods of time.

Requires frequent reaching, bending, repetitive hand movements, twisting, standing, walking, sitting, squatting, pushing, and pulling exerted regularly throughout a regular work shift.

Ability to carry heavy boxes up stairs

Work outdoors in all weather

Must be able to climb into and out of cars numerous times each day.

Work Environment

This position operates in a professional dealership environment.

Scheduled shifts will be determined by the manager, with rotating shifts throughout the work week.
