10 hour Faculty Position in Theater Greater Hartford Academy of the Arts Half-day Program General Purpose: The Arts Academy seeks an Artist-Instructor, to teach from 12:45pm-4:15pm, Monday & Wednesday beginning in late August 2024.

Under the direction of the Theater Department Head and Program Administration, you would deliver core theater curriculum in assigned courses and take on electives that connect with areas of expertise & artistic practice and as assigned.

You would be joining a supportive and collaboratively driven faculty at an award-winning magnet school dedicated to social justice and delivering an equitable education to students throughout the Greater Hartford region.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Development, implementation and assessment of syllabi and lesson plans to meet the needs of all learners for a variety of courses within an existing curriculum.

Selection and preparation of appropriate learning materials including texts, supplements, audiovisual materials and other media for student learning.

Recording of daily attendance, preparation of grades and narrative comments on interim and quarterly reports for all students, regular communication with parents regarding student progress.

Participation in meetings with parents, representation of the department at student performances and recruitment activities, attending evening performances and open houses, participating in regular faculty meetings as well as professional development activities.

Other duties as assigned by the Department Head and program administration.

. Preferred Experience and Expertise: Experience teaching all skill levels in an array of Theater-related arts.

Specific training or professional experience in Movement, Multi-Cultural Dance, Stage Management, and/or Acting for the Camera is desirable.

An exemplary record of professional practice in their discipline.

Demonstrated lesson delivery and assessment skills.

Working knowledge of global theater movements and the contemporary landscape of the professional theater.

Minimum educational requirements: BA/BFA in Theater or a related field, plus substantial professional and teaching experience.

Eligibility for a Connecticut State Department of Education Adjunct Arts Instructor Permit is required.

Requirements for permit eligibility: (1) hold a bachelor's degree from an institution of higher education accredited by the Board of Governors of Higher Education, or regionally accredited, (2) have a minimum of three years of work experience in the arts or one year of work and two years of specialized schooling related to the applicant's artistic specialty, and (3) at least one hundred eighty hours of cumulative experience working with children in a private or public setting, including, but not limit to, after-school programs, group lessons, children's theater, dance studio lessons, and artist-in-residence programs, or at least two years' experience as a full-time faculty member at an institution of higher education or been employed by an eligible inter-district magnet school prior to July 1, 2011 and for at least one year.
