Your new role

The Lead Project Engineer will report to the Area Project Manager and will undertake the duties required to assist the Owner’s Project Team to manage the development of the project in a technically viable, cost effective and timely manner. The focus will be interdisciplinary coordination for scope definition/control, and schedule of engineering deliverables to meet Procurement, Construction and Operational Readiness. This position will coordinate with internal resources (not direct reports) through the execution of projects that they are responsible for.

· Provide engineering support for the SP&S Integrated Owner’s Team, including review and monitoring of progress and providing guidance on deliverables from multiple engineering consultant companies to ensure consistency with applicable engineering design standards. · Ensure engineering scope for project development is properly defined for each individual project in the portfolio. · Review Project change requests from all Project personnel and stakeholders to ensure alignment with Project parameters and objectives and obtains the approval of the applicable Area Project Manager before any change is implemented. · Manage engineering contractor’s scope and corresponding budgets to ensure overall project objectives are met. · Advance the relationship between the engineering contractor(s), other engineers and Operations to ensure effective integration and coordination of strategies and programs. · Work with Project Controls to ensure methods of measuring engineering progress are in place to monitor engineering execution. · Develop, implement and monitor standard engineering development procedures (based on SPE, NAPG, Central Engineering guidance documents) to ensure alignment across all projects with engineering objectives, project scope requirements and deliverable timelines, i.e. Project Controls, Procurement, Construction, Engineering, Safety and Quality and Environmental. · Participate in development of Risk Management plan including identification and evaluation of engineering/technical risks to project development. · Provide technical / engineering support for permit application processes. · Interface with Operations representatives to ensure required input into project development. Provide guidance in the preparation of manuals, training, and transfer of the Project to Operations. · Represent the interests of the owner as technical design concepts are developed to ensure cost effective solutions (both Capex and Opex) are incorporated in the design and interface with Operations on design/operational issues. · Responsible for review of technical evaluations of contracts and purchase orders completed by engineering contractors and/or Owner’s team. Lead technical evaluations and contribute to commercial evaluations of contract bidders submissions. · Coordinate with field engineering support to ensure continuity of design intent as well as provide technical support for Commissioning and Operational Readiness groups. · Support the review of vendor documents for compliance with their design criteria.

What you'll need to succeed

· 8-10 years of relevant experience · Undergraduate degree in Civil or Mechanical Engineering · Coordination of Multi discipline engineer design · Understanding engineer design deliverable development · Engineering coding, organization/structuring for contracts for procurement processes · Mining or heavy industrial background
