SUMMARY

We are currently seeking a casual Pharmacy Tech to join our Hospital Retail CSC Clinic Community Pharmacy team. This position is casual, no benefits, day/evening shift, and rotating weekends.

Under the supervision of a registered pharmacist performs a variety of technical and clerical duties allowable by law, while maintaining a favorable image of the pharmacy within the hospital and in the community.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Answers phones for the pharmacy department and directs calls to appropriate personnel

Maintains knowledge of the Hospital Credit and Collection Policy and other related policies

Prepackages, prepares, labels and hands out prescriptions after they are checked by a registered pharmacist

Maintains cash registers, credit card machines and reporting for cash transactions

Prepares daily deposits for the cashier’s office

Bills and credits patient medications

Stocks inventory in Pharmacy

Routinely checks and removes outdated and expired medications

Delivers medications to patient care and ancillary areas and picks up new orders as scheduled

Files prescriptions and reports

Maintains the pharmacy in a clean and organized fashion

Enters outpatient prescriptions

Obtains and records patient drug histories

Triages orders, determines priorities, processes orders and notifies the pharmacist as appropriate

Performs various calculations to determine the correct dose using weight

Identifies the appropriate product to process based on the prescription order

Triages insurance rejections and initiates prior authorization claims as needed

Uses appropriate pharmaceutical-medical terms, abbreviations and symbols

Maintains a working knowledge of general chemical and physical properties of drugs

Compounding medications as per Minnesota Board of Pharmacy rules and regulations

Responsible for safe and careful handling of chemotherapeutic medications

Assist with other duties as assigned but only after appropriate training

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Education/ Work Experience:

High School Diploma or GED

Graduate of an accredited Pharmacy Technician Program or a 240 hour employer based Technician training Program or 1,000 hours of Pharmacy experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

Computer skills

Knowledge of Pharmacy computer systems.

Insurance and Billing Experience

Excellent customer service skills

Demonstrate good decision making skills, problem solving techniques, and possess the ability to prioritize multiple tasks

Ability to use a computer and associated programs

Ability to understand oral and written instructions

Ability to learn and apply pharmacy procedures and interpret prescriptions

Ability to apply basic math skills

Some skill in record keeping

Ability to use computer effectively

License/Certifications:

Current Pharmacy Technician Registration with MN State Board

PTCB or ExCPT pharmacy tech certification within 1 year of date of hire, paid for by employee.

OR

Current Intern License with the Minnesota Board of Pharmacy
