Position Summary:

The Diesel Shop General Manager is a key role in our business. Maintaining all our various size trucks, tractors, trailers, and farm equipment along with building relationships with our OTR Drivers and ensuring the safe, legal, and reliable operation of equipment in order to achieve our company objective of consistently providing a quality customer experience.

Required Skills / Competencies:

Knowledge Areas:

Managing and coordinating the daily activities of maintenance shop

Responsible for leading, preparing, and scheduling daily work assignments for shop mechanics to maximize efficiency and minimize costs and asset downtime

Diagnose and troubleshoot problems with vehicles and equipment

Maintaining and controlling shop parts inventory

Maintenance of a mix of light, medium, and heavy duty towing trucks both diesel and gas, including hydraulics and cylinders, as well as heavy haul tractors and trailers

Maintain a focus on cost control and time management by monitoring and analyzing all opportunities to cut costs and improve efficiencies, including providing recommendations on fleet utilization and replacement

Maintain a clean, safe work area in compliance with company and OSHA standards as well as with all applicable laws/regulations

Identify and monitor equipment sent to outside sources for repairs

Maintain a high standard of quality control for all repairs

Completing required fleet maintenance paperwork or computer entry associated with repairing vehicles, documenting parts usage, and accounting for repair time

Ability to help build a team willing to work with customers who also have a need for equipment repair

Experience:

Must possess minimum 3 years of fleet shop management experience with a minimum fleet size of 50+ assets within the auto/diesel industry.

Must have strong management skills along with the ability to identify each employees’ strong suits and assign projects to each mechanic based on the abilities.

Prior technician/mechanic experience is required

Must be familiar with light, medium, and heavy truck / tractor/ trailer repair and maintenance

Must be goal-oriented leader that thrives in a fast-paced challenging environment.

Must be able to multi task, prioritize, and delegate jobs to ensure all repairs are completed in the most efficient and effective manner.

Thorough knowledge of truck, tractor, and trailer maintenance, and DOT rules and regulations.

Must have problem-solving skills, good communication skills, both written and verbal.

Class A CDL strongly preferred

Expected Hours of Work:

This position requires approximately 40 hours per week, as needed, to meet the demands of the business and complete the responsibilities of this position.
