NOTICE OF POSITION OPENING

JOB TITLE: Rolling Stock Mechanic/Filet Machine Mechanic - Alaska General Seafoods

LOCATION: Ketchikan, AK

Responsibilities:

Maintains safe operational condition of all rolling stock.

Perform repairs and preventative maintenance.

Lubricates vehicles, oils and replaces broken or worn parts.

Inspects and repairs worn, malfunctioning or broken parts.

Maintains records relating to the maintenance and repair of assigned vehicles.

Examines vehicle and determines nature and extent of damage or malfunction.

Repairs or replaces parts such as pistons, rods, gears, valves, and bearings.

Overhauls or replaces carburetors, blowers, generators, distributors, starters, and pumps.

Relines and adjusts brakes, aligns front end, repairs or replaces shock absorbers, and solders leaks in radiator.

Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Experienced mechanic on both gas and diesel vehicles.

Able to work well under pressure in a fast-paced environment for up to 12-16 hours a day 7 days a week.

Experience in forklift mechanics in all aspects including electrical.

Experience and understanding of hydraulic systems and components.

Ability to troubleshoot and work independently.

Basic knowledge of welding preferred.

Hold a valid US Driver’s License.

Able to take quick action, exercise independent decision making and resolution of mechanical issues.

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.

Consistent and reliable attendance is an essential function of this position.

Must provide own tools.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Must be able to work long hours in wet and cold conditions. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts. The employee is frequently exposed to wet and/or humid conditions and extreme cold. The employee is occasionally exposed to high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals; outside weather conditions; risk of electrical shock and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
