The Assistant Merchant is responsible for helping to support the merchandising function + team. This role will report directly into the Director of Merchandising. This role will also partner + own categories by executing key merchandising strategies by analyzing data, reviewing critical reporting and reacting to data points associated with the business.

Position Overview:

Examples of Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Run reports for team, to analyze sales trends and any adhoc reporting needs.

Analyze sales & stock on a weekly, monthly, and seasonal basis; identify opportunities for sales growth.

Review daily sales performance to identify potential re-order opportunities and recommend styles that require markdowns; suggest and implement initiatives to optimize sales and margins.

Keeps track of mark down calendar.

Partner with Director of Merchandising to create cohesive assortments and any assortment planning needs – daily update of buying tools ie buysheet, assortment documents.

Participate in merchandising discussions to develop greater understanding of how specific actions impact overall department results.

Track shipments, deliveries.

Creates product knowledge to give to retail + marketing teams

Schedule monthly buy meetings.

Partner with styling, photography, and production teams on catalog needs.

Ad-hoc reporting and other duties as assigned.

Sample Management for categories owned.

Own administrative aspects of business including weekly reporting, product attribution and marketing pass off sheets.

Create and file Purchase orders, sales orders and transfer orders as needed; maintain accurate ship/cancel dates to ensure timely arrival for floor sets and emails; partner with teams to discuss any issues.

Facilitate strong working relationships between corresponding Merchandising, Planning, E-commerce, Marketing, Creative and Store teams.

Display strong prioritizing skills and the ability to execute in a timely manner.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Strong Attention to detail

Professional, can do, team player attitude.

Ability to adjust to the ever-changing environment.

Should be comfortable with google sheets, documents, and excel – all Microsoft programs

Strong business acumen as it pertains to retail

Skills and Qualifications

One to three years of specialty retail experience; multi-channel brand experience is a plus.

Instinct and passion for great product (taste level), strong product point of view.

Demonstrated passion for merchandising.

Acute awareness of market trends (trend forecasting); can translate this into ideas for key items, profitable growth and measurable results.

Ability to translate qualitative trend and market information into actionable and informed recommendations.

Deep commitment to gain knowledge of the customer and the market.

Ability to multi task and prioritize independently in a highly competitive and fast paced environment.

Strong analytical skills and financial acumen; demonstrated by the ability to analyze and make recommendations that are consist with the brand; critical thinker.

Self-motivated – pushes self to perform at a higher level which in return delivers recognition and inspires others.

Salary Range: $26.00 - $29.00/hour
