Under the direction of the Senior Director, Revenue Cycle at Harvard Medical Faculty Physicians (HMFP) at the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center (BIDMC), the

Director, Revenue Cycle Operations provides enterprise oversight of core Professional Revenue Cycle support functions including provider data management. This position will serve as a key member of HMFP Revenue Cycle leadership team, working collaboratively with HMFP Finance, HMFP CAOs and BILH/Epic IT to achieve business outcomes. Collaborating closely with Senior Director, Revenue Cycle, this position will provide input into the overall direction for accounts receivables and denials management in an effort to optimize its net realizable value.

Primary Responsibilities:

Provides leadership and direction to all Operations staff, to ensure Operations Support activities are executed accurately and efficiently. Ensures adherence to established HMFP policies, government regulations and payer requirements.

Provides managerial oversight of core Operations functions and outcomes, including developing operational policies and procedures, process flows, reports, system optimization, performance monitors and other mechanisms.

Evaluates, monitors and assists in the setup of specific payor and/or contract system setup including but not limited to Medicare Pecos, Managed Care /BILH PN to ensure HMFP’s information is kept up to date and current, minimizing any downstream impacts.

Evaluates, monitors and assists in developing the priorities and progress of HMFP’s Provider Onboarding and Enrollment functions, including provider data management, MDS integration.

Establishes operational policies and procedures, organization Cash Collection targets, reserve assessments, and provides input to any technology and/or automation improvement opportunities related to Revenue Cycle Operations area.

Prioritizes and organizes work within department to meet changing priorities.

Approves account adjustments and refund requests based on HMFP departmental policy.

Identifies opportunities for improved efficiency through better processes and additional automation. Monitors impact of process-oriented changes on staffing requirements.

Supervisory Responsibilities—directly manages the Manager, Provider Onboarding and Enrollment. Directs employees’ daily work activities. Responsible for the development of staff including the following employment actions: hiring, termination, corrective action and performance reviews.

Required Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree required preferably in Business, Health or Finance.

10+ years related work experience required in healthcare revenue cycle, hospital or multi-specialty practice setting.

Knowledge of health care revenue cycle, including professional billing and reimbursement.

Advanced skills with Microsoft applications which may include Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint or Access and other web-based applications.

Advanced skills with business intelligence, analytic tools to conduct analysis, reporting, trending.

HFMA Certifications including CHFP, FHFMA preferred.

Ability to demonstrate core understanding of third-party billing and collections processes with particular focus on billing cash management requirements.
