Job Summary:

The Metal Manufacturing Engineer is responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining manufacturing processes, equipment, and facilities specifically related to metal production. They will use their expertise in metalworking techniques, engineering principles, and problem-solving skills to optimize productivity, product quality, and cost-efficiency in a metal manufacturing environment.

Responsibilities:

Develop and improve metal manufacturing processes: Analyze current metal manufacturing processes, identify inefficiencies, and implement improvements to optimize productivity, reduce waste, and ensure quality standards are maintained.

Design and implement metal manufacturing equipment and tooling: Collaborate with cross-functional teams to specify, design, and procure the necessary metal manufacturing equipment, gauges & check fixtures, and tooling to meet production goals and requirements.

Develop cost reduction opportunities that require capital investment; justify the capital investment expenditure, using ROI analysis, and preparing the documentation to “sell” the proposal.

Troubleshoot and resolve metal production issues: Investigate and resolve production problems specific to metal manufacturing by applying root cause analysis, implementing corrective actions, and coordinating with other departments as necessary.

Process validation and documentation: Validate new or improved metal manufacturing processes and equipment, ensuring compliance with industry standards and regulations. Create and maintain documentation such as process flowcharts, plant layouts, work instructions, and standard operating procedures (SOPs) for metal manufacturing activities.

Implement Lean Manufacturing and Continuous Improvement methodologies: Utilize Lean

Manufacturing principles, such as Six Sigma, Kaizen, and 5S, to drive process improvements and promote a culture of continuous improvement within the metal manufacturing environment.

Collaborate with cross-functional teams: Work closely with product design, quality assurance, production, and other engineering teams to ensure products are designed for manufacturability and that metal manufacturing processes are aligned with product requirements.

Manage projects and resources: Develop and manage project timelines, budgets, and resources to ensure metal manufacturing engineering projects are completed on time and within budget.

Train and mentor production personnel: Provide guidance and training to production staff on new metal manufacturing equipment, tooling, and processes to ensure a smooth transition during implementation.

Evaluate and implement new metal manufacturing technologies: Stay current on the latest industry advancements in metal manufacturing technologies and identify opportunities to incorporate them into the company's processes.

Ensure a safe working environment: Implement and maintain safety procedures and guidelines specific to metal manufacturing, ensuring all activities comply with applicable health and safety regulations.

Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in Manufacturing Engineering, Materials Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Metallurgical Engineering, or a related field.

A minimum of 3-5 years of experience in metal manufacturing engineering or a similar role, preferably in the relevant industry.

Strong knowledge of metal manufacturing processes, equipment, and tools.

Proficient in computer-aided design (CAD) software and other engineering tools.

Solid understanding of Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, and other continuous improvement methodologies.

Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and critical thinking skills specific to metal manufacturing.

Strong project management and organizational skills.

Ability to communicate effectively with team members, management, and external partners.

Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work in a collaborative, team-oriented environment.

Familiarity with industry-specific regulations and standards related to metal manufacturing.

The Metal Manufacturing Engineer role is essential to the efficient production of high-quality metal products. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in metal manufacturing engineering, a commitment to continuous improvement, and excellent problem-solving skills specific to metal production.

Proven experience in facilities layouts

Demonstrated experience in selection and oversight of sub-contractors required for the installation of of equipment or modification to manufacturing facilities.

Welding experience preferred.
