Job Description

Position Overview

The Technician’s primary responsibility is to provide maintenance and installation services for VanRan Communications customers with Avaya telecommunications systems and associated peripheral equipment. The technician will support many customers located at many locations throughout VanRan Communications territory. This position supports business customers who have or are looking to deploy an Avaya IP Office solution.

Work Week: Normal business hours are Monday through Friday, 8 AM to 5 PM. Hours may vary based upon the needs of the business. Holiday and overtime work may be required. Required to participate in on-call rotation with peers in order to meet 24x7x365 response requirements to support business needs.

RESPONSIBILITIES

IP Office Implementation

Install IP Office + Communication Manager (Avaya Aura) systems.

Program/edit configurations of IP Office + Communication Manager (Avaya Aura) systems.

Program telephone sets.

Basic Call Management changes for call centers.

Hardware/software upgrades.

Be able to properly document process when required.

Moves, Adds and Changes

Make configuration changes, additions or deletions.

Add or remove telephones.

Add, change or delete software.

Add or remove system cards, circuits, etc.

Add or delete digital or analog system trunk lines.

Conduct backups before and after every job.

Help Desk Coverage

After Hours On-Call Coverage

SKILL SETS

Basic Networking Skills

Know and understand basic networking fundamentals i.e. IP Addressing, subnet masks and default gateways.

Layer 2 principles & connectivity i.e. DHCP, Routing, VLANs etc.

Able to identify and define purpose and function of LAN/WAN hardware.

Basic Documentation Skills

Be able to document and share experiences and lessons learned.

Be a contributor to team collaboration sites.

Create basic instructions/end user guides for end user information portals.

Knowledge and use of Microsoft Office 365.

Telephones

Ability to provide troubleshooting services on telephones.

Replace telephones.

Cabling

Ability to troubleshoot and diagnose station cabling issues.

Repair station cabling and jacks.

Telco

Ability to identify, troubleshoot and resolve carrier related line/circuit problems.

Coordinate troubleshooting efforts and act as focal point for problem resolution involving service interruptions.

Required Education and Experience

Education: High school degree.

Minimum of two years’ experience with Avaya equipment.

Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously.

Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

Strong interpersonal and communication skills (both verbal and written).

Microsoft Office suite experience.

Knowledge of Session Border Controllers a plus.

Knowledge of UCaas and CCaaS a plus.

Knowledge of desktop support a plus.

Certification in IP Office + Communication Manager (Avaya Aura) a plus.

Avaya ASPS IP-Office or basic IP networking certifications a plus.
