Role Overview For Senior VMware Engineer:

We are looking for the right person to join the global system engineering organization as a senior virtualization engineer to define cutting edge global virtualization solutions in a Hybrid Multi Cloud Environment. Responsibilities will include building and managing scalable, stable and highly available automation and orchestration mechanisms and tooling for the new platforms as well as working to continually enhance Jefferies existing virtualization estate.

This position requires a mixture of engineering, operations, hands on technical and support skills. Qualified candidates should have excellent troubleshooting and analytical skills. In addition, it requires an open mind attitude to venture outside of their comfort zone when necessary. The individual will work closely with local and global technical leads, infrastructure and operations teams and other cross-department teams to evaluate business needs and provide end-to-end technical solutions and manage, operate, monitor, audit, secure the Jefferies server Virtualization assets.

Key Responsibilities:

Participate and advise on design, development and engineering of virtualization platform

Day to Day Management and Operations of Jefferies Virtualization Platform—including troubleshooting, monitoring, forecasting, capacity planning, upgrades, patching, securing Jefferies virtualization environment.

Participate in defining virtualization strategy support on-prem, hybrid and public cloud environment.

Development and Operations of full orchestration and automation framework.

Working closely with global operational counterparts to ensure stable and healthy virtualization platforms.

Maintain and update environmental documentation, standard Operating Procedures, engineering documentation, Runbooks in support of operational hand off.

Mandatory Skills and Experience Required:

VMware certification VCP/VCAP

5–8-year experience in VMWare VCenter and VSphere/ESXi 6.x/7.x/8.x

Excellent knowledge of VMware Core products and virtualization Technologies.

5+ years of corporate experience supporting large geographically diverse system implementations

5+ years automation and scripting skills

5+ years supporting VMWare Site Recovery Manager for DR.

5+ years supporting and using VMWare VRealize Operations Manager to troubleshoot performance issues, forecast VM growth.

Excellent knowledge on VMware HA, DRS, vMotion, storage vMotion, ESXi multipathing in a Fiber Channel Environment.

Excellent knowledge of VMWare memory management, Data store management.

Must be able to troubleshoot performance issues and provide recommendations to management and server teams.

Excellent knowledge of NSX-T (for micro-segmentation) management, deployment and troubleshooting.

Excellent knowledge of vRNI, LogInsight.

Excellent knowledge of VMC (VMware cloud in AWS/Azure/GCP) and HCX (Hybrid Cloud Extension)

Excellent knowledge of TCP/IP Networks/Networking/Topologies including DNS.

Highly Desirable Skills:

Nutanix AHV/AOS 6.x or any second virtualization platform skills but preferably Nutanix.

Excellent Knowledge of Server HW and server Architecture preferably Cisco UCS Fabric Interconnects, Chassis, UCS Manager and with B200 Blade class Server or HPE Synergy with SY480/660 Blade solutions

Excellent knowledge of Software defined Computing—building servers, networks and storage from templates and profiles.

Excellent Knowledge of Fiber Channel SAN (preferably Cisco MDS 9700), HPE Nimble Storage, Pure Storage and Netapp Storage with all FLASH/NVMe storage.

Excellent Knowledge of Disaster Recovery and Data Protection Technologies/Platform.

Working knowledge of AWS and AZURE Public Clouds, highly desirable.

Experience of running ON PREM platforms in Public Cloud highly desirable.

Experience in Production deployment of vVOLs highly desirable.

Knowledge of VDI management technologies, preferably Citrix.

Experience of Linux/Windows Operating Systems.

Critical Beyond the Technical Skills Required:

Strong oral and written communication skills with the ability to communicate technical and non-technical concepts to peers, customers, and management

Must be capable of routinely making effective and timely decisions in alignment with departmental direction and based on sound business knowledge and industry best practices.

Possess excellent technical problem solving and customer service skills

Initiative, drive and ability to work effectively as part of a local team as well as a global team.

Must work well without direct supervision and as part of global teams.

Must be able be part of a weekly on call rotation for night and weekend support.

Must be able to work in 24x7 operational environment.

Primary Location Full Time Salary Range of $150,000-$165,000.

The salary offered will take into consideration an individual’s experience level and qualifications.
