Description:

Leading, Mid-Atlantic based construction contractor with 85+ years of stability and growth has hired our firm on an exclusive basis to recruit a construction lawyer with 3+ years of relevant experience for their Richmond, VA office. Our client has 2,200+ employees, but a small legal department, so you will report directly to the General Counsel (who’s been with the company for 12 years). The company receives numerous awards every year for excellence in construction, as well as in innovation and safety.

This newly created role will primarily support their Virginia business unit and Corporate Purchasing Department by drafting and negotiating various contracts (e.g., construction contracts; subcontracts; professional services agreements; rental agreements; purchase orders; supply agreements; non-disclosure agreements; master services agreements; and joint venture agreements). You will lead contract negotiations with business partners (i.e., project owners, general contractors, subcontractors, and suppliers), and also collaborate closely with corporate leadership, project managers, purchasing managers, etc. during the contracting process. Working closely with the Director of Contracts, you will develop and conduct training seminars for corporate leadership and various business units on commercial contract matters (e.g., contracting procedures and risk management). You will also support various corporate initiatives on an as-needed basis.

Bottom line: This position offers excellent responsibility and visibility both internally and externally. In addition, our client offers market-competitive compensation and an excellent benefits package.

Construction experience is required, and while a litigation background is okay, you must have some experience on the transactional side leading contract negotiations. Experience with various forms of project delivery types (e.g., Progressive Design-Build, Design-Build, Bid-Build, and P3) is preferred but not required.

**This is a unique opportunity to join a family company where you will be part of a team that’s committed to each other’s success with the goal of building a better tomorrow.
