Research Technician

The Stowers Institute for Medical Research has an opening for a Research Technician in our Media Preparation core facility.

Responsibilities Include:

Preparing reagents and media (yeast, microbiological) to standard specifications including pH, osmolality and antibiotic concentrations

Modifying existing protocols to meet researchers’ requirements as needed

Preparing and maintaining stock solutions for the media vending system

Participating in the scheduling and delivery of finished products

Troubleshooting new media formulations in cooperation with researchers

Performing quality control checks on new raw materials

Setting up and maintaining equipment and instruments

Utilizing the LIMS system to organize, track and bill orders

Assisting in the writing and implementation of Standard Operating Procedures

Ordering raw materials and maintaining inventory

Assisting with other duties as required

The successful candidate will have mastered a broad spectrum of basic laboratory techniques in general wet bench lab work and have excellent sterile technique; the ability to work both independently and as part of a team, as well as exceptional written and verbal communication skills.

Minimum Requirements:

A Bachelors degree in Chemistry, Microbiology or similar life sciences

At least one year of relevant scientific experience
