This is an extraordinary opportunity for an extremely organized professional with a keen eye to detail and accuracy, who will use their good judgment and analytical and skills effectively to solve problems with tact and discretion, manage multiple demands and meet strict reporting deadlines. The Payroll Administrator ensures that all aspects of the payroll cycle are processed in a timely and accurate manner in accordance with the Company and government policies, terms and regulations.

Key Responsibilities

Processes bi-weekly payroll including deciding the course of action, processing new hires, terminations, rate changes, garnishments, and other data relating to employee records and payroll processing.

Sets up and maintains employee information in payroll and scheduling software and assists in ensuring the attendance system is up to date.

Audits payroll to guarantee data entry accuracy and ensures that policies and procedures are followed. Reconciles timesheets and timecards and ensures accurate daily input.

Monitors and processes appropriate forms for hourly employees, such as overtime, vacation, leave of absence, sick pay, bereavement pay, etc.

Performs year-end payroll reconciliations (including T4, T4A).

Processes employee termination documents in an appropriate manner to meet legislative timelines, calculates final pay and cancels benefits when required.

Responds to inquiries in a timely and effective manner. Provides support and assistance with regard to administration and communication of benefit programs including disability claims.

Liaises with the payroll provider (ADP/Ceridian)

Skills, Knowledge and Abilities Required:

Thorough knowledge of payroll theories, practices, legislation, resources and Employment Standards Act.

Proven high level of Customer Service

Strong computer skills including word processing, spreadsheets, databases, email, and web browsers

Strong Microsoft Excel skills

Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Resourceful and proven analytical skills in order to determine the source of errors and appropriate corrective actions

Proven ability to carry-out payroll procedures while exercising good judgment and tact, analysis and decision-making; able to work independently and take initiative

Strong working knowledge of payroll and accounting processes, experience with hourly payroll desirable

Experience, Training, Certification and Education (demonstrating requirements):

5+ years of payroll administration experience, or equivalent in education and experience

Successful completion of Canadian Payroll Association PCP certification is an asset

Experience working with time and attendance systems, Ceridian Dayforce preferred

Experience working in a unionized environment and application of Collective Agreements

Working Conditions/Physical Requirements:

Office environment

Mostly sitting with some standing and walking

Repetitive motion. Substantial movements of the wrists, hands/or fingers

Close visual acuity required to prepare and analyze data and figures and view computer screen
