Position Summary

The Human Resources Generalist is a key member of the Exploration Charter School team and is responsible for a variety of services including recruitment, onboarding, and engagement, benefits administration, and compliance. The HRG plays an important role in building and maintaining the agency’s values-based culture, with an emphasis on instilling a sense of belonging for staff and advancing equity, diversity and inclusion in staffing and service delivery.

Essential Functions

Recruitment/Hiring/Onboarding

Focuses on recruitment of diverse candidates that are more reflective of Explorations student population by working closely with the Operation Manager for future recruitment in the educational field.

Assists in the review of all applications, development of hiring timelines, screens candidates, develops interview questions, facilitates interview teams and selection process, serves on interview team while managing the Paychex Flex ATS System

Conducts onboarding meetings with new staff by working closely with the Principal on New Staff Orientation, mentoring and support of new instructional staff.

Retention

Conducts exit interviews with outgoing staff to continuously look for ways to improve.

Employee Relations

Proactively raise issues to senior leadership that may affect employees, and collaborate with them to identify practical solutions

Lead investigations, including employee complaints and conflicts and bring them to resolution.

Maintain physical and digital files for employees, including benefits, attendance records, continuing education, certifications and licenses.

Benefits

Work with Agency brokers and other benefit suppliers in coordinating annual enrollment.

Work with benefit administration vendors to coordinate activities for STD, LTD, COBRA, FMLA, NYS Unemployment etc.

Provide information to employees regarding benefits

Plan, coordinate, and facilitate Employee Benefit Fair

Compliance

Ensure compliance with all State and Federal laws and regulations regarding hiring practices

Generate surveys and reports as needed, analyze data and make recommendations on HR approaches, policies and procedures.

Working with the Leadership Team, update the employee handbook as needed.

Provide market information and other benchmark data to management regarding compensation and benefits.

Attend Monthly Human Resource Committee Meetings

Any other duties as may be assigned Requirements:

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in HR, Business Admin., or related field, with a minimum of 5 years HR experience (particularly in Employee Relations and Staffing) or equivalent combination of education/experience.

Knowledge of a broad range of human resource strategies and practices, including compensation and benefits, performance management, safety, hiring and employee relations; able to apply these strategies and practices in compliance with employment regulations.

Preferred Qualifications

A minimum of five (5) years of successful professional employment experience in education

Completion of Masters Program with degree in human resources, organizational systems, education administration, communications and/or other related fields.

Experience in recruiting, working with and retaining a diverse workforce.

Familiarity with culturally responsive practices.
