Position Title: Seasonal Lanterman’s Mill Attendant
First Line Report: Mill Manager
Second Line Report: Education Manager
Employment Status: Part-Time Seasonal
Exempt/Non-Exempt: Non-Exempt
SUMMARY: The Seasonal Lanterman’s Mill Attendant is primarily responsible for assisting with customer service, operations and maintenance of the facility/gift shop and interpreting the Mill to local groups/individuals. The Seasonal Lanterman’s Mill Attendant position reports directly to the Mill Manager and/or the Mill Supervisor. This position is suitable for transitional duty.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
General Facility Functions:
Assist with grinding and bagging of grain as needed
Clean and maintain Mill, restrooms and surrounding area as needed
Inspect and maintain boardwalks, parking lots, paths, stairs, grassy areas and flower beds in immediate vicinity of the Mill
Assist in preparation of events and programs as needed
Adhere to and enforce MCMP policies and procedures for MCMP staff, volunteers and visitors
Keep supervisor informed of essential issues and report disturbances to proper authorities
Perform other duties as assigned
Visitor Services:
Lead tours or interpret natural heritage of Lanterman’s Mill and surrounding areas
Operate gift shop: use cash register and credit card machine, collect admission, stock merchandise, answer telephone and complete daily reports
Greet, assist and monitor visitors; answer questions
Independently open/close/staff Mill visitor services when scheduled
Assist in preparation and delivery of programs and special events
EDUCATION/QUALIFICATIONS
Must be at least 18 years old
Graduation from high school or a GED equivalent required
ESSENTIAL KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES AND SKILLS
Excellent customer service skills, including the ability to communicate clearly and effectively to a wide variety of audiences in both writing and speaking
Ability to work with the public and other staff members in a friendly, professional manner and maintain a courteous demeanor when handling difficult personalities or situations
Proficient with common reception desk/gift shop/office equipment such as computer, cash register, credit card machine, calculator, telephone, answering machine, etc.
Excellent math skills, including the ability to count money, make change accurately and produce financial report sheets
Ability to utilize cleaning, repair and gardening tools
Ability to complete all tasks assigned in an efficient, timely and professional manner
Ability to read, understand and follow MCMP rules, safety rules and SDS sheets
Must be able to work a varied schedule as needed including evenings, weekends and holidays throughout the season
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Must be physically able to perform all tasks inherent to the position
Able to walk, traverse or otherwise access all areas and trails in the Lanterman’s Mill area, under all types of conditions and weather to perform duties
Able to stand, sit, bend, stoop and walk for lengthy periods of time and walk up/down stairs
Ability to climb stairs and ladders
Ability to lift over 25 pounds
Must be able to work in a dusty environment due to grinding of grain
Ability to use common cleaning products and disinfectants
