We are seeking a Boiler Lab Technician to join our team! This position will set up and perform a wide variety of laboratory tests on our residential burners and boilers. The ideal candidate will have experience with basic tools, simple wiring, and piping.

This is a full-time position located in Lancaster, PA. The hours are Monday-Thursday, 7:45 AM – 4:45 PM, and Fridays, 7:45 AM – 3:30 PM.

Essential duties and responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Maintains safe, clean, and organized working conditions by following standards

Set up and perform tests according to standard test procedures of ANSI (American National Standards Institute, Inc.), ASHRAE (American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers, Inc.), and applicable AHRI tests related to heating systems

Basic ability to independently develop and implement testing procedures with limited information

Use lab equipment to record measurements including but not limited to temperature, pressure, flow rate, voltage, current draw, and flue gas composition

Maintain detailed electronic test records including test description, equipment list, and all required data

Perform pipe fitting, welding, brazing, soldering, carpentry, assembly, electrical wiring, and adjustment of units to obtain proper operation

Basic knowledge of electronics, blueprints and wiring schematics for boilers, test equipment, and lab

Perform basic troubleshooting and debugging of test set-ups and test equipment

Fabricate simple and complex parts and models to support design and testing

Use basic hand tools and power tools correctly, safely, and have the ability to identify the correct tool for the task at hand

Perform basic field troubleshooting when required

Assist in other laboratory functions as required, including maintenance and calibration of equipment and general clean-up. Coordinate activities with project engineer and lab manager

Qualifications/Requirements:

Two-year technical degree required or equivalent experience. Minimum high school diploma or general education degree (GED); or five or more years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience

Basic computer skills

Ability to read engineering drawings and sketches

Ability to install basic heating equipment

Work Environment:

The employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts. The employee is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles. The employee is occasionally exposed to high, precarious places, toxic or caustic chemicals; outside weather conditions; risk of electrical shock and vibration.
