Commissioning Coordinator - Construction
Maple Reinders is pleased to announce that it has been awarded the contract for the construction of the Royal BC Museum Collections and Research Building in Colwood, (Victoria) BC. The new facility will be an advanced, sustainable, and culturally sensitive building that will serve as a community and learning hub for the region. Once complete, the new facility will house the Royal BC Museum's collections, research departments, learning spaces and the BC Archives. Mass timber construction will be used extensively, and the building will meet CleanBC energy efficiency standards, and be LEED Gold Certified.
As a Commissioning Coordinator in our Buildings division, you will have the opportunity to support our Project Managers in the delivery of our exciting Industrial, Commercial and Institutional building projects. The focus of your role will be to help manage Mechanical and associated scopes (mechanics, major equipment, HVAC) subcontractors, contract documentation including ensuring adherence to the construction schedule, support commissioning and start up as well as coordination with other trades. We work on a variety of types of contracts such as Design Build, Plan and Spec and Construction Management and you would gain experience on all of these.
The purpose of the coordinator in supporting the Project Manager is to ensure that the work is performed as per the contract documents, that the project is completed with outstanding quality, equipment is appropriately commissioned and functioning, and that the jobsite is a safe workplace.
In doing so, you will be involved in:
Assisting in reviewing and tracking construction schedules, setting up project administration files
With direction from the Project Manager, initiating and maintaining correspondence with Owner, Architect, Engineers, sub-trades and suppliers
Gain an understanding of how to select suppliers and sub-trades and obtaining quotations
Assisting with and/or clarifying scope of work with sub-trades and suppliers
Developing successful relationships with current and prospective clients, consultants, realtors, and developers
Ensuring there is a continuous focus on site safety in accordance with regulatory requirements as well as our Corporate Health and Safety Policy
Attending site meetings and assisting in the completion of project deficiencies
Closing tenders in consultation with senior managers
Assisting in start up and commissioning of major equipment
At Maple we are looking for individuals who have the skills and desire to take on the role of Commissioning Coordinator, but have the drive to become a Project Manager.
To be considered for this role you will have:
Minimum 3-5 years or more experience as an Mechanical Project Coordinator or Commissioning Coordinator in the construction industry
A University Degree/Technology Diploma in Civil Engineering, mechanical trade or a combination of education and industry experience
Ability to read and understand mechanical drawings and CAD
Fluency in commercial construction and equipment commissioning practices. Such as, submittal, RFI, quality control & document control.
Experience in design/build or engineering processes would be advantageous.
A solution focused attitude.
HVAC and/or sprinkler experience (coordination, design or install experience).
Knowledge of mechanical systems - pumps, motors, valves or pressurized systems
The ability to increase the effectiveness of Maple’s QA/QC – flagging of deficiencies and non-conformances.

Please note that this will be a full-time site based role in Victoria, BC.
Salary range: $70k - $90k annually
