We are seeking a senior-level forensic architect to join our Architecture & Building Science team based at our corporate office in Mount Prospect, Illinois. The ideal candidate is a seasoned professional with a proven track record in investigating and remediating failures, performance issues, and defects in existing buildings. This role will involve collaborating with building owners, property managers, contractors, and other technical professionals, as well as with insurance and legal experts. The candidate will play a key role in expanding CTLGroup’s client base in the buildings and facilities sector, and will possess a deep understanding of building design and construction, with particular expertise in building envelope performance. Key Responsibilities

Conduct thorough on-site inspections of existing buildings to assess the condition and performance of building envelope systems such as exterior walls, roofing systems, windows and doors, insulation, and air/vapor barriers.

Perform field tests and measurements to gather data and evidence.

Analyze design and construction documents to understand original design intent and identify potential issues.

Identify causes of building component and system failures, construction defects, and building code compliance issues.

Develop repair or retrofit recommendations and designs based on investigative findings.

Prepare detailed reports documenting observations, analyses, findings, and recommendations.

Prepare repair or retrofit plans and specifications, as needed.

Serve as an expert witness, as needed, in legal proceedings, depositions, and court hearings.

Manage and oversee projects, ensuring deadlines and budget constraints are met.

Stay abreast of advancements in building envelope systems and materials.

Explore markets in area of expertise and participate in business development activities toward meeting personal productivity expectations and contributing to group profitability.

Proactively participate in professional development and thought leadership activities.

Mentor and coach junior staff.

Requirements

Education: Bachelor of Architecture (B.Arch.) or Master of Architecture (M.Arch.)

Experience: 10+ years of experience, with a focus on building envelope investigations.

Licensure: Licensed Architect in Illinois; National Council of Architectural Registration Boards (NCARB) record and multi-state licensure is a plus.

Communication Skills: Strong written and verbal communication skills, especially in presenting complex technical information.

Technical Skills: Strong background in the design, construction, and performance of building envelope systems. Experience coordinating and conducting critical façade examinations is a plus.

Project Management: Experience managing and leading architectural investigation projects.

Business Development: Experience with client engagement, development of project scopes and budgets, and proposal preparation.

Physical and Travel Demands

Position may require some work to be completed in a field or laboratory environment, including possible work from heights or in confined spaces.

Role may require working additional hours.

Up to 25% travel may be required for this position.
