Job Description:

U.S. Pipe and Foundry is seeking a Quality Assurance Intern. The successful candidate will play a key role in supporting and managing projects related to melting, casting, and annealing processes.

This internship can lead to a full-time at will employment opportunity as US Pipe.

Essential Functions:

Develop system for the traceability of molten iron chemistries to steel scrap suppliers.

Perform study on the effect that cupola charge materials have on refractory.

Institute best practices to increase anneal ability of ductile iron pipe due to future of increasing adverse elements in raw materials.

Shadow Board.

Packaging Inspectors.

Shipping Inspectors.

Visuals for “Good Quality” pipe at pertinent locations.

Calipers usage and storage in casting.

Map Out Process Flow - Quality Check’s.

Develop “Spare Part” list & Supply of current Gauges, focus on Calipers and handheld devices.

Spare Part list for all Quality Machines ~ Chemical & Physical Lab.

Set up Leach Test.

Slump Test Set Up.

Machine/process Speeds at Hot Side & Cold Side

Evaluate how much Thinner can be used during touch up on pipe.

Evaluate impact on two separate cements coming in on process scrap.

Gauge transition into HDSS products.

Skills & Other Requirements:

Must have completed sophomore year.

Must be enrolled in a Metallurgical or Materials Science Degree Program, Business, Engineering or related

Should understand metal processing, chemistry, and phase diagrams.

A minimum of one class in metallography (sample preparation and polishing) is required.

An interest in foundry processing would be beneficial.

A working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel) is required.

The applicant should expect to be exposed to an industrial environment and to learn basics of ductile iron metallurgy and processing.

The candidate will prepare an end of assignment presentation to the plant leadership teams outlining their project work during their assignment
