Location: Portsmouth (Broad Oak)

Salary: £54,000 to £69,000 depending on skills & experience

Referral Scheme Bonus: £1,000

Grade: GG12

What you’ll be doing:

Provide technical insight and take ownership of system requirements, operational performance, and weapon behaviours

Lead system definition to deployed operation, ensuring compliance with contractual, safety, security, regulatory, and legislative requirements as delegated by the System Design Authority

Ensure an effective support solution for the Sting Ray torpedo in the UK and Norway through effective governance covering all aspects of design, manufacture, assembly, trials and in-service support

Supporting product enhancement definition and influencing obsolescence resolution, fostering strong relationships with stakeholders

Developing and overseeing relevant Product Plans, incorporating necessary technologies and solutions

Support the System Design Authority in leading internal and external technical reviews for product system design and associated supporting systems, liaising with and influencing customer stakeholders

Support the System Design Authority in collaborating with the broader business to share information and experiences

Support the System Design Authority as technical lead through involvement in and support of winning business and bid management activities

Your skills and experiences:

Proficiency in Systems Engineering principles and familiarity with ISO 15288 standards

Experienced in underwater weapons systems, adept at resolving technical challenges and conflicts

Comprehensive understanding of technology breadth within relevant product(s) and alignment with future weapons systems

Experienced in requirements management using contemporary tools (e.g. IBM DOORS Next)

Proficient in leading large-scale system designs

Well-versed in navigating the Engineering Lifecycle and various lifecycle models (e.g., Waterfall, Agile)

Skilled in presenting complex technical and non-technical information formally

Possesses higher education degree (or equivalent) in a relevant STEM discipline

The Sting Ray team:

In your capacity as the Deputy System Design Authority, you will use your in-depth knowledge of Systems Engineering to tackle challenging engineering challenges with products and systems, guaranteeing the Sting Ray Weapon System's continuous efficacy and safety.

This role is a fantastic opportunity to enhance your skills and invest in your career journey. You will be supported in growing your knowledge across contemporary and emerging fields such as Model Based Engineering (MBE and MBSE), Digital Thread, Digital Twins, Future Air Dominance solutions and Underwater Battlespace solutions.

Working together with both internal and external stakeholders, such as the British and Norwegian Armed Forces, and the UK Ministry of Defence, to guarantee alignment and engagement while promoting product improvements, such as technology upgrades and obsolescence resolution, to extend the life of the weapon system.
