Looking for a rewarding Monday through Friday position assisting students in special education? Brook Lane Health Services is hiring Behavior Specialists for our Laurel Hall School in Frederick, MD. Brook Lane is a leading provider of mental health treatment and education in the region.

Laurel Hall is a non-public Type I school designed to provide education services to students with special needs, including, but not limited to, emotional disabilities, Autism or multiple handicaps that require sophisticated, highly structured and individualized special education services and any needed psychiatric support services. Our program includes focusing on social skill development and communication for autism spectrum students. We offer programming for students on the certificate track that includes vocational, community and life skills training. Community outings, volunteering and internships are a part of this important programming. The Frederick location has nine classrooms, sensory spaces, a library, gym, curriculum resource room, and an office suite. Catered meals are served in a cafeteria on site. The capacity at this location is 50 students.

The Behavior Specialists provides student care, instruction, and behavioral support, and are trained in therapeutic intervention procedures in order to de-escalate any student crises that arise during the school day. Therapeutic intervention may involve verbal de-escalation and/or physical restraint depending on the severity of the situation. Ability to safety administer restraint techniques is required.

Key Responsibilities

Supervises students during academic periods and non-academic periods (dining, off-grounds, etc.)

Assists teacher to maintain classroom order

Help students with activities of daily living as needed (physical care, eating, etc.)

Performs crisis intervention with students exhibiting behavior problems

Provides one on one time with students as needed

Transport students as needed

Qualifications

High school degree required.

Previous experience with school aged children and autism population preferred

Physical ability to perform behavior management duties, which could involve standing up or being down on the floor

Ability to pass therapeutic restraints training course

Ability to deal with student aggression and intense behaviors

Ability to assist students with activities of daily living

Starting pay $15.75-$19.20 depending on experience and education.
