Responsibilities

Oversee and maintain all aspects of the Customs Brokerage Department

Work with peers, Branch Manager and Corporate to ensure all KPI’s are met at both the Department and FTE levels

Manage import compliance audit program in the Branch and implement department policies, controls, and procedures to assure compliance

Conduct audits and assess import compliance and foreign trade zone operations with US Customs laws and regulations

Stay abreast of current import CHB/CBP and other government agency regulations to ensure compliance

Interface with government agencies and maintains positive relationships

Maintain customer bond and power of attorney records

Perform post entry work required to correct errors prior to filing

Create draft for a binding ruling requested on a client’s commodity; prepare written submission on behalf of clients

Train and develop staff by providing interpretation and guidance of CBP and other government agency regulations and ensure compliance with US specific importing regulations, monitor productivity and audit accuracy and timeliness of entries

Facilitate new business acquisition and account development related to full range of customs services

Provide pricing and solutions to clients and salespeople

Participate in sales and client meetings

Ensure maximum client satisfaction through interaction with clients and other company business units

Assure seamless new customer onboarding set up and process

Plan and establish customized logistics programs for new customers as needed

Conduct Customs Compliance audit

Daily responsibilities including but not limited to: Statements, Bonds, Penalties, New IOR/Consignee/Customer/Vendor profile creation, CBP employee updates, ACH management, tracking Arrival Notices/Invoicing/Entries/Reconciliation

People Responsibilities

Allocate workloads within team to ensure smooth operations during peak activity

Coach, mentor and educate colleagues

Deliver training and onboarding for new hires per the company requirement standards

Periodically communicate department goals and expectations with team to ensure buy-in and accountability

Qualifications

Must have a valid U.S. Customs Brokerage License. Customs Compliance Specialist (CCS) certification preferred

Five or more years of related experience in global logistics, entry writing, import/export compliance, commodity controls, regulatory, and security initiatives

Proven experience in a supervisory/management position

Strong problem solving and analytical skills; general mathematical skills

Familiarity with international shipping and receiving processes

Understanding of Tariff and Product Classification

Working knowledge of shipping systems and automated tools

Ability to follow oral and written communication

Prior experience in brokerage, freight forwarding, foreign distribution, and compliance

Experience in control of documents and material tracking

Must be PC literate and possess good organizational and communication skills

Excellent time management skills and the ability to organize his/her own team effectively and efficiently

Able to motivate and direct staff and identify the best people for the job

Able to lead a team and be sensitive to the needs of others

Good written communications skills are also very important

Critical thinking skills and problem-solving techniques

A degree in business, supply chain management, finance, or geography is seen as an advantage
