Underwriter/Auditor will be responsible for handling a large group of accounts and their associated brokers that make up Lovell’s Safety and General Group Workers’ Compensation Program with an emphasis on contracting-related business.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Review new business accounts to verify accuracy of estimated premium, confirm all coverages being applied for all entities as requested on quote request. Verify that all necessary forms have been received and submitted to the carrier (ex: executive officer exclusion forms, ERM-14 ownership documents)

Review renewal policies to verify the proper manual rates, experience rating, classifications, and estimated payrolls.

Assist clients (policyholders and brokers) with audit disputes such as but not limited to, reallocation of payroll, subcontractor coverage, misclassifications, and recalculations of premium in disputes. Interacting with the client, accountant, broker, NYSIF and NYCIRB as needed.

Respond to customer billing and premium inquiries. Must possess excellent knowledge of WC premium factors, understand how premium is calculated and be able it and changes to clients.

Understand how to quote WC new business and provide premium comparisons for existing business as required.

Analyze, review, and calculate customer’s experience rating modifications.

Immediately respond to clients and brokers regarding all inquiries pertaining to current and cancelled policies.

In conjunction with the State Insurance Fund, assist with obtaining various coverages, accurate billing of estimated premiums, audits (record keeping guidance on preparing for NYSIF carrier audits, re-audits, NYCCPAP applications and renewal of policies.

Work closely with the Lovell accounting team to ensure proper billing by recalculating disputed bills or returned premiums to avoid cancellation of policies and provide detailed information and premium calculations for collection on active and cancelled policies.

Perform duties with minimal supervision, manage a heavy workload, and interact with demanding brokers, clients and NYSIF staff to ensure timely and positive resolution of client issues.

Complete, file, calculate and follow-up on WC related forms with NYSIF, Clients, Brokers and NYCIRB. Diary policies to verify that these forms are filed, appropriate action is taken by the responsible parties, and it is reflected on the policy.

Respond to the New York State Worker’s Compensation Board regarding our client’s non-compliance of coverage and penalties.

Respond to a heavy volume of phone calls from clients or brokers regarding all matters pertaining to current, cancelled, and prospective clients.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Required Education, Experience & Licensing

Bachelor’s degree or higher and 2+ years of experience, or overall 5+ years of proven WC Underwriting/Auditing experience.

Experience working with Contracting and other Industries.

Computer Skills (MS Suite – with good knowledge of Excel)

Skills and Knowledge Requirements:

Demonstrated problem solving and analytical skills.

Excellent knowledge of WC rates, audits, experience ratings, classifications, New York Construction Contracting Premium Adjustment Program (NYCCPAP), New York Payroll Limitation Program & wrap-up policies.

Excellent customer service skills, problem solving and critical thinking.

Strong analytical skills with good judgement

Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work in teams and individually.

Strong verbal and written communication skills.

Must be able to provide excellent customer service.

Strong organizational skills with the ability to work within tight timeframes and meet strict deadlines.

Must have good computer skills and be proficient with Microsoft, Word, and Adobe.

At Lovell, we offer a comprehensive and competitive benefits package in addition to compensation. The annual salary range for this role is $70,000 to $85,000 in addition to bonus potential, a 401(k) match, health benefits, paid time off and more. The final salary will be determined based on a variety of factors, including the individual's experience and qualifications.
