Position Overview: Robertson-Williams Transport and ETS is seeking a dedicated and experienced Fleet Safety Director. to oversee all aspects of fleet safety, DOT compliance, and insurance claims management. ETS and RWT are a growing fleet of Haz Mat liquids carrier based out of Kansas City MO servicing the Midwest United States. The Fleet Safety Director will play a critical role in ensuring the safety of our drivers, vehicles, and operations, while also managing regulatory compliance, insurance claims, oversee the hiring of qualified CDL drivers, manage employee disciplinary issues, and company safety policies. This position requires strong leadership skills, a thorough understanding of safety regulations, and the ability to effectively manage a wide range of safety-related activities.

Responsibilities:

FMCSA Driver File Maintenance:

Ensure compliance with FMCSA regulations by maintaining accurate and up-to-date driver qualification files, including driver licenses, medical certificates, and records of violations.

Conduct regular audits of driver files to identify any deficiencies or non-compliance issues and take corrective actions as needed.

Track and coordinate drivers’ expiration dates for all licenses and physicals required to stay compliant.

Insurance Claims Management:

Manage all aspects of insurance claims related to fleet operations, including reporting incidents, coordinating investigations, and communicating with insurance providers.

Work closely with insurance adjusters and legal counsel to resolve claims in a timely and cost-effective manner.

Hiring and discharging of CDL Drivers

Oversee hiring process to ensure that we are hiring the best candidates for the job.

Oversee company recruiter in efforts to hire qualified drivers and make final decision in job offers to drivers.

Work with Operations Managers when discharging employees and following company policies regarding employee discharges.

Employee Disciplinary Issues and Hiring Standards:

Develop and enforce employee disciplinary policies and procedures to promote a culture of safety and compliance.

Establish hiring standards and criteria for driver recruitment to ensure that all new hires meet safety and qualification requirements.

Loading and Unloading Spot Checks:

Conduct spot checks and inspections of loading and unloading operations to ensure compliance with safety protocols and prevent accidents and injuries.

Provide training and guidance to employees on proper loading and securing of cargo to minimize risks.

Site Inspections and Safety Policy Management:

Conduct regular site inspections of fleet locations, shops, and customer sites to assess safety hazards and compliance with safety policies and procedures.

Develop and implement safety policies and procedures to address identified risks and promote a safe working environment.

Shop Safety and OSHA Compliance:

Ensure that all shop facilities comply with OSHA regulations and safety standards, including proper equipment maintenance, hazard communication, and emergency preparedness.

Conduct safety training sessions for shop personnel and monitor compliance with safety protocols.

Training

Carry out the training program for the company to ensure that all new drivers and current drivers stay up to date on industry and job specific training.

Oversee driver trainers to ensure new drivers are meeting all competencies and training requirements.

Insurance Compliance:

Maintain compliance with insurance requirements, including following guidance set by insurance providers regarding policies and procedures, providing required documentation to insurance providers, and addressing any compliance issues that may arise.

On-Call Availability and Travel:

Be available on-call 24/7 to respond to emergencies and critical incidents involving fleet safety.

Travel to insurance and safety conferences, as well as on-site inspections at fleet locations, shops, and customer sites as needed. Meeting with new drivers for interviews when and where applicable.

Fleet Safety Director Support Team

The Safety Director is assigned an administrative assistant to help with fulfilling all responsibilities of the director including but limited to, recruiting, log auditing, dash camera audits, driver safety scoring, onboarding paperwork, driver file management. Fleet Safety Manager will work alongside with Operations Managers, Fleet Maintenance Managers, Shop Forman, IT Support and company ownership to achieve company goals. Fleet Safety Director will report directly to the Vice-President/COO and President/CEO.

Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in safety management, transportation management, or a related field; or equivalent work experience.

Proven experience in fleet safety management, with a comprehensive understanding of FMCSA regulations, insurance claims management, and OSHA compliance.

Strong leadership skills with the ability to effectively manage a team and drive safety initiatives.

Excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact with employees, management, insurance providers, and regulatory agencies.

Knowledge of safety management systems, risk assessment methodologies, and best practices in fleet safety.

Willingness to be on-call 24/7 for emergencies and to travel as needed for conferences and on-site inspections.

Certification in safety management or related field (e.g., CSP, SMS, ASP) is preferred.

Schedule requirements

M-F 800AM-430PM, with weekends as needed for company events, meetings, training and other needs.

On call 24/7 for Emergencies

After hours availability by phone or email for accidents, injuries or incidents.

Salary

Salary Range - $75,000-90,000 base salary range depending on experience, plus quarterly bonus
