Location: Newport News, VA

Schedule: M-F, 7 AM-3:30 PM (40 hours/week)

Duration: 12-month contract-to-hire (long-term)

Start Date: ASAP (fine with notice/relocation)

Pay Range: Dependent on YOE - $80k-$95k

Insight Global is seeking an ocean engineer to support one of our largest federal clients in Newport News, VA. The ideal candidate will possess a bachelor's degree from an ABET accredited engineering program in Ocean engineering or Naval Architecture and a background in weight engineering including performing weight, center of gravity, and mass property calculations. This role is fully on site in Newport News, VA, working in an office environment. The ideal candidate will be able to spend the vast majority of their time working on a computer, will have a strong ability to perform scientific calculations, be proficient with database usage, and have experience with quarterly weight reporting. The role responsibilities will include but are not limited to:

Performs routine naval architecture work requiring application of standard techniques, procedures, and criteria in carrying out a sequence of design and/or analyses of ship hull, foundation, superstructure, arrangements and hull form characteristics tasks.

As directed, applies selected techniques and procedures to assignments involving ship design and ship performance analyses.

Assists in the solution of difficult problems involved in weight engineering

Uses prescribed methods to perform specific and limited portions of broader systems design, performance analyze, or hull form characteristic assignments of more experienced naval architects.

Must Haves:

Bachelor's degree from an ABET Accredited Engineering Program (Ocean or Aerospace Engineering preferred)

Ability to work behind a computer full time

Ability to analyze large amounts of data

Can read and interpret engineering documents and drawings

Strong understanding of mathematics (volume, density, moments, etc.)

Proficiency with Microsoft Excel

Familiarity with basic database usage and functions

Familiarity with 3D Modeling software

Plusses:

Prior military experience

Experience with Weight and Center of Gravity (CG) calculations

Familiarity with change management procedures
