SUMMARY OF POSITION:
Diagnose and treat acute, episodic, or chronic illness, independently or as part of a healthcare team. May focus on health promotion and disease prevention. May order, perform, or interpret diagnostic tests such as lab work and X-rays. May prescribe. Provides care of hospitalized patients and has full control of a patient throughout their entire shift.
The transplant surgery APP is an essential member of the transplant surgical team and the multidisciplinary transplantation team. This position is primarily responsible for the management and care of liver and kidney transplant patients throughout all phases of care (pre-transplant, peri-transplant, and post-transplant), general and hepatobiliary surgical patients in the transplant surgical service. The duties include, but may not be limited to, participation in daily inpatient rounds as a member of the multi-disciplinary team, development and management of complex immunosuppression regimens, reviewing lab results and developing a daily inpatient plan of care, ordering medications, ordering imaging/testing, coordinating complex medical care with various consulting specialties, writing progress notes, and optimizing the individualized patient discharge plan to facilitate a successful outpatient transition. This role also includes responsibilities in the clinic setting and has a potential opportunity for growth of the role in the OR setting.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATION(S):
Graduate of an AMA-approved Physician Assistant Program or baccalaureate or higher degree program that meets licensure requirements in the State of employment
National Certification in the State of employment or in another State with reciprocity and licensure to practice in the State of employment
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
