Job Description

Axiom is seeking an Engineering Technician for repair, installation, and maintenance, for design and operation of electrical and mechanical systems in support of the National Weather Service Sterling Field Support Center (SFSC)

Responsibilities

Fabricate prototype and production instruments used in meteorology research

Manage the scheduling, procurement, assembly, production, and maintenance of meteorological instrumentation

Convey technical information, provide training, and present findings of engineering developments to internal and external audiences

Test and analyze machines, tools, and components to determine performance, strength, and stress tolerance.

Conduct period quality checks on equipment and systems to plan and schedule repairs.

Repair faulty equipment units and damaged structures

Recommend cost-effective changes in equipment design to improve reliability and safety and timeliness.

Interpret engineering designs, plans, and diagrams.

Provide technical solution to mechanical problems.

Essential Requirements:

Willingness and availability to travel extensively (up to 3-4 weeks at a time) and adapt to various working conditions.

Ability to work outdoors, potentially in remote Alaskan locations during summer months, demonstrating physical fitness for fieldwork in sometimes challenging weather.

Demonstrable proficiency in reading engineering drawings, diagrams, and schematics and the ability to redline documents. Proficiency in drafting software (AutoCAD, Inventor, Visio) a plus.

Knowledge and ability to quickly identify installation deviations or issues needing resolution. Large focus on tracing electrical circuits in power & electronics enclosures. Ability to show aptitude and proper safety protocols surrounding electricity and typical electrical components including power supplies, transformers, etc.

Strong knowledge of typical technician's tools such as electrical meters, crimpers, cutters, power tools, etc.

Fundamental grasp of engineering concepts (mechanical, civil, electrical, networking, RF etc.) to discern relevant details and translate them into technical drawings and communicate issues.

Capacity to analyze unique installation challenges, collaborate effectively with HQ engineering to develop solutions, and clearly document those solutions for future use in a systematic and methodological way.

Qualifications:

Trade school/trade license minimum of 3 or more years of related experience building maintenance technology or relevant field or a certification in Engineering. Technology from a community college or vocation-technical school.

Advanced understanding of general maintenance procedures.

Effective problem- solving abilities with written and verbal communication skills to collaborate effectively with engineers, technicians, and project stakeholders.

Compliance with health/safety procedures and regulations.

Must be able to lift and carry heavy objects up to 50 pounds.

Legally eligible to work in the USA.

Highly Desirable Skills:

Working knowledge of 3D modeling software to direct creation of comprehensive representations

Familiarity with code & standard practices and terminology to enhance ability to communicate issues & field conditions
