ASSOCIATE LANDSCAPE DESIGNER/ARCHITECT

McCullough is a growing, studio-style landscape architecture, urban design, and planning firm headquartered in the Hillcrest area of San Diego with an office in the Bay Area. Our collaborative approach to design provides a fun atmosphere and synergistic working environment. Our studio designs for the end user and strives to bring all into the process. The result is a broad learning experience for the entire team and quality product for our client.

A SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATE WILL WORK FULL-TIME AND EXCEL IN THESE AREAS:

• Preparing preliminary design, detailed plans and working drawings, specifications and cost estimates pertaining to the project using computer-aided design (CAD) packages or related design software

• Drafting master plans and preparing detailed development plans and specifications for building site, hardscaping, landscape plantings and irrigation

• Reviewing landscape plans for conformance to building codes, by-laws, space and site requirements, and other technical documents and reports for the city landscape permit process

• Gathering and analyzing site data including soil, vegetation, geographic orientation, rock features, drainage, and location of structures (if any) for development of measured drawings

• Studying both the architectural and structural design for coordination

• Performing special studies, environmental design and/or field investigations as required

• Drawing conceptual sketches, hand drawings for planting layouts, and selecting landscape materials and accessories

• Preparing water calculations table showing efficient usage of water

• Inspecting projects as they progress to determine regulation and specification compliance and making recommendations to existing specifications and plans

• Developing public presentations and attending community meetings

• Organizing and maintaining records and meeting minutes

• Preparing reports and correspondence related to work completed, approved landscape drawings and official documents

• Checking dimensions of materials to be used and assigning numbers to the list of materials

• Preparing and coordinating project schedules and deadlines

• Coordination and Communication between all parties involved through the entire life of the project: client, consultants, internal/external team members

REQUIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

• Bachelors degree or higher in Architecture or Landscape Architecture

• 3-5 years of experience of relevant work experience in Landscape Design; 2+ years in project management

• Experience in computer-aided design (CAD) drafting

• Experience in Sketch-Up and Photoshop a must; LandFX and Lumion are a bonus

• Excellent hand graphics and modeling

• Strong communication skills, both written and verbal

• Ability to display critical thinking and problem-solving skills

• Managed multiple projects at a time - ability to multitask

• Expertise on analyzing private development plans for accuracy, appropriateness and compliance with laws

• Ability to understand behavioral patterns of natural and built environment

• Strong understanding of the principles and practices of landscape architecture/design; landscape elements

• Comfort level with client relations
