The Purchasing department is often referred to as the "backbone" of the company, as several other key departments are dependent on those of Purchasing for their day-to-day operations. The primary function of the purchasing department is material procurement of chemicals, supplies, laboratory equipment, and other required product goods and services. Items purchased may be for inventory stock, backorders or for company use. The Purchasing Manager is directly responsible for sourcing, procuring, scheduling and assist in the planning of production planning. This role will also assist in managing warehouse/supply chain team members to further support facility operational goals.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

Source and search chemicals and MRO supplies to drive down costs.

Obtain current pricing and availability on all materials.

Assure supply for new and existing products, including negotiations on behalf of the company.

Develop and implement supply chain and procurement strategies that align with the organization's goals and objectives.

Provide strategic direction to the supply chain and procurement teams, ensure alignment with overall business strategies.

Oversee all aspects of procurement activities, including sourcing, vendor selection, contract negotiation, and supplier performance management.

Develop and maintain strong relationships with key suppliers, ensuring reliable and cost-effective supply of materials, goods, and services.

Monitor and analyze market trends, pricing, and supplier performance to identify opportunities for cost savings, process improvements, and risk mitigation.

Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including operations, finance, and quality, to ensure seamless integration and coordination of supply chain activities.

Coordinate efforts to develop, collect, and formulate vendor and supplier qualifications.

Implement and maintain inventory management systems and processes to optimize inventory levels while ensuring adequate supply to meet production and customer demand.

Develop and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure and improve supply chain and procurement performance, such as on-time delivery, cost savings, and quality.

Lead continuous improvement initiatives to streamline processes, enhance efficiency, and reduce costs within the supply chain and procurement functions.

Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, industry standards, and ethical practices in all supply chain and procurement activities.

Develop and implement risk management strategies to mitigate supply chain disruptions, including contingency plans and alternate sourcing options.

Oversee supply chain team members and assist in warehouse/supply chain operations as needed.

EDUCATION AND/OR TRAINING:

Bachelor’s degree in supply chain management, Business Administration, or a related field.

Five to seven years of related experience and or training preferred; equivalent combination of education and industry experience will be considered.

WORK EXPERIENCE:

Minimum of five to seven years of progressive experience in supply chain management, procurement, or related roles.

Familiar with and/ or direct experience with Pharmaceuticals/ GMP/ FDA/ CFR210 & 211 and ISO environment.

Experience in reviewing qualitative reports, familiar with IR, UV, and NMR spectrum analysis.

Experience utilizing SAP, Excel, Power BI and or Tableau

Demonstrate the ability to make use of spreadsheets to calculate discounts, commissions, proportions, percentages, areas, and other data; able to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.

Ability to understand scientific terms, units of measurement, scientific jargon, and specifications.

ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS (OPTIONAL):

Ability to work independently with little to no supervision.

Must be able to solve practical problems and deal with situations where only limited standardization exists.

Ability to interpret instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.

Able to make decisions based on data given.
