Hours: Full-Time. 40 hours per week.

Under the guidance of the Histology Supervisor, the Histology Technologist properly maintains the daily workload of the histology department. This position requires that the individual be qualified to perform high complexity testing according to CLIA regulations. The qualified individual must be meticulous and methodical in practices, due to the often small, irretrievable nature of the specimens processed in a histology laboratory. It is the responsibility of the laboratory director to determine whether an individual’s education, training and experience satisfied the requirements herein.

Responsibilities

The Journeys and Adventures that Await:

Histologist must demonstrate technical competency including the following categories

a. Embedding tissue with correct orientation according to established protocol

b. Cutting tissue blocks with high quality microtomy

c. Grossing/dissecting patient samples with care according to the established protocol

d. Special Stains must be done manually with proper quality control performed

e. Performs IHC staining with proper quality control.

f. Basic troubleshooting of histology procedures

Clerical components of the Histology lab promote proper communication and chain of custody within Duly and other Medical Institutions

a. Maintenance logs are filled out daily to ensure machines are working at optimal function and at the proper laboratory conditions

RL6 investigation and support.

a. Effectively reports and investigates patient safety incidents, medical errors and potential risks in the facility

b. Assists with identification and implementation of corrective action where appropriate

c. Responsible for investigating issues such as turn-around-times with the lab, problems receiving supplies, patient issues and concerns, and will be responsible for forwarding these issues to the correct leadership

Qualifications

The Experiences You Bring:

Histology Technologist (HTL) preferred

Histology Laboratory Technician (HT) preferred

Issued by (Governing Body)

ASCP – American Society for Clinical Pathology

Associate or Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college in medical technology, clinical laboratory science, allied health science or related discipline.

Field of Study

Foreign educated candidates must provide a detailed credential evaluation from the IERF (International Education Research Foundation).

United States educated candidates must provide a detailed original transcript

We accept new graduates from histology programs

Previous experience in a hospital or reference laboratory a plus

Certification preferred within 1 year of hire date.
