Summary of Responsibilities

Sets up and operates multiaxis numerically controlled milling machine to perform machining operations on metallic and nonmetallic workpieces according to specifications and tooling instructions, applying knowledge of milling methods.

Essential Functions

Job duties as outlined within ISO9001 work instructions for CNC Mill Operator.

Reads process sheets, blueprints, and sketches of parts to determine machining to be done, dimensional specifications, set up and operating

requirements, and required quality control procedures.

Selects and installs tooling in spindle or automatic tool change magazines, in proper sequence to perform work.

Observes numerical displays on control panel and compares with data on blueprints or process sheets to verify dimensional adjustments, feed rates,

and speeds of machine cuts.

Inputs data to override machine program control and correct machine performance, applying practical knowledge of milling operations.

Inspects first run pieces and performs spot checks for conformance to specifications, using precision instruments.

Studies job packets and organizes materials for next job during automatic cycles to shorten changeover time.

Sets up and operates another machine tool during machine-controlled cycles as dictated by Supervisor.

Other Functions

Prepare reports or perform other projects as requested from time to time by the CNC supervisor, plant manager or board of directors of the Corporation.

Requirements:

Required Experience

Normally, at least 2-4 years of trade school, vocational education, work experience, or apprenticeship. Ability to read blueprints and use of precision instruments.

Educational Experience

The position requires an associates degree in machine trades, or equivalent work experience.

The position requires a working knowledge of NC controls systems.

Visual and Hearing Acuity / Physical Demands

Near acuity and accommodation are required for reading machine dial gauges, blueprints, and precision measuring instruments used in the inspection of parts. Ability to monitor machine sounds to identify and diagnose changes in order to take appropriate action. The ability to stand, walk, push, pull, lift, reach overhead, bend to the floor and exert pushing and pulling force of 50 pounds.

Working Conditions

Day Shift: hours 7:00am to 5:45pm Monday through Thursday; and 7:00am to 3:45pm Friday.

Lunch - 12:00pm - 12:45pm

Infrequent overtime work required throughout the year.

Normally working in a shop environment subject to high noise levels from operating machines, physical hazards from moving equipment and machine parts, exposure to dust, mist, fumes, oils and cutting fluid
