Day in the Life

Registry MRI technologist job responsibilities include using magnetic resonance imaging equipment to scan and capture images to aid in patient diagnosis as ordered by a physician. This position requires the ability to closely follow a physician's instructions, appropriately position patients, prepare and operate MRI equipment, and accurately record the images requested.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Performs Diagnostic imaging procedures through the use of Magnetic Resonance Imaging to generate information necessary for the diagnosis and subsequent treatment of patients in accordance with industry, departmental, and ACR policies and procedures.

Assess and evaluate the physician's orders for MRI examinations according to departmental procedure

Evaluates the request for the procedure and assesses the patient to determine the appropriate protocol.

Applies MRI safety measures as appropriate

Educates patient as to the examination being performed, reduces patient anxiety and provides comfort during the procedure

Positions patient and performs diagnostic imaging procedure utilizing appropriate equipment and MRI safety measures at all times

Completes and maintains radiologic medical record of the patient including proficiency in utilizing PACS

MRI technologist must be able to manage the patients safely and effectively during imaging procedures with the limitations of the patient's cognitive abilities, psycho-motor skills, emotional stability and sensory capacities (sight, hearing, etc.)

Preserves patient dignity, privacy and modesty following all HIPPA guidelines at all times.

Maintains awareness of safety hazards and use of equipment to prevent damage to personnel and patients.

Screen every patient and person entering the magnet room to ensure safety at all times.

Perform contrast exams in accordance with company policy and procedures.

Evaluate labs for contrast exams and administer the proper contrast type and amount in accordance with company policy and procedures.

Maintain MRI monthly log sheet

Review, file and document all Radiology reports into patient's chart. Alert a PA or RN of abnormal results.

COMPETENCIES:

Knowledge of and/or experience in the correct use of body mechanics.

Expertise transverse anatomy and medical terminology

Good organizational skills and exceptional customer service skills.

Ability to manage multiple tasks in a busy clinical environment.

Above average oral and written communication skills.

Demonstrates ability to work independently.

Ability to effectively work with physicians, nurses, patients, families, staff, other healthcare professionals, and management.

Ability to work with and maintain confidentiality of patient, patient account, and personnel data.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

Associates or bachelor's degree in applied radiologic science or certification from an accredited radiologic technology program preferred.

Minimum 2 years' experience in MRI

Registration as a technologist by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT)

Registered by the ARRT as an MRI Technologist required

Willingness to learn all MRI procedures.

Current CPR certification preferred

Current Illinois Emergency Management Agency license.

Working Conditions/Physical Demands:

The ability to move equipment if applicable.

The ability to lift up to 350lbs. to transport and position patients safely. Proper lifting techniques required.

The manual dexterity sufficient to operate MRI equipment.

Hearing and visual acuity sufficient to perform examinations, observe patients, read monitors and documents, hear equipment alarms.

Visual acuity includes the ability to see details at close range (within a few feet of the observer).

Requires considerable use of your arms and legs and moving your whole body, such as lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, and handling of materials.

The ability to work within a limited space and in bright and low-lighted examination rooms.

Subject to normal occupational hazards for employee in medical imaging field. Employee may frequently be exposed to hazardous materials such as chemicals, electromagnetic radiation, blood/body tissues/fluids and disease.

Travel between Orland Park and Oak Lawn locations
