Utility Locator (Water)

Rate of Pay: $18.80 - $21.43

Status: Upen Until May 31, 2024

This position is responsible for locating underground utilities, specifically water and sewer lines using electronic devices, system maps, GIS and GPS data. This position is responsible for completing the assigned utility locate requests in a timely manner and making status reports to the Senior Utility Locator.

Locates water and wastewater mains, services and appurtenances by reading and interpreting maps, blueprints and use of electronic locating devices.

Provide accurate documentation of locates when completed.

Provides assistance to Engineering division with GPS/GIS data acquisition.

Provides assistance to crews with problem solving in distribution system.

Perform light excavation to expose buried utilities when needed.

Performs other duties as required.Preferred Qualifications:

High school diploma or GED and a minimum of two years related utility locating experience.

Ability to operate electronic utility locating devices with accuracy.

All newly hired employees must have a Georgia State Board Distribution or Collection certification or obtain within two years of completion of the scheduled training class. Employees promoted to this position from within Water and Wastewater department must have the certification or must obtain certification within the remaining amount of time allotted in their previous position.

Must complete Georgia trenching and shoring certification within one year of hire.

Valid Georgia driver’s license and a satisfactory seven-year driving history to include no DUI’s in the last five years.

Ability to operate a PC and use MS Office Suite software, including MS Word, Excel, and Outlook, to perform data entry and retrieval and compose reports.

Knowledge of water and wastewater methods, operating rules and equipment, and construction maintenance techniques and procedures.

Knowledge of related occupational hazards and safety precautions.

Ability to read system maps and blueprints.

Ability to communicate both verbally and in written form.
