ITOM / Discovery – ITOM Event management Administration:

Perform day-to-day monitoring and maintenance activities associated with managing the enterprise event management and system monitoring framework. (ServiceNow ITOM and Discovery)

Analyze system monitoring messages and alerts and work with support teams in eliminating/suppressing unwanted messages, modifying thresholds, and evaluating and building automated responses to system events.

Develop, test, and implement system monitoring policies for system and application monitoring.

Develop scripts and automation within ITOM to monitor systems and applications for availability and performance.

Develop and monitor the output of scripts for data processing jobs, monitoring systems and critical applications, and administering a centralized event console.

ITOM, Discovery, and Service Mapping are architected, designed, and configured correctly in our environment to ensure our applications are related to databases, servers, and services and systems are being monitored correctly. (Necessary we understand What is down and why.

Work with various technical and support teams to help ensure our applications, databases, and servers have correct relationships. (Service Mapping and Discovery: Top down and horizontal discovery.)

Continue to implement and improve Event Correlation in ITOM.

Implement all URL monitoring for the company’s web applications and websites through ServiceNow ITOM.

Integrations and Support:

Work with multiple IS groups and project teams during testing and through production implementation to implement system and application monitoring plans.

Create documentation for training support personnel on the use of ITOM and Operator Workspace on the ServiceNow platform.

Integrations: Work with IT engineering and support groups in utilizing various tools and custom scripts to implement appropriate monitoring of systems into ServiceNow ITOM. These include OEM, SCOM, SolarWinds, and other application integrations.

Participates in Production Turnover activities ensuring system monitoring, corrective action plans are in place and staff trained to handle events monitored.

ITIL Processes and Reporting:

Reporting and Dashboards: Track, capture, and report on key system performance metrics; analyzing trends and provide input to engineering and application teams to improve the availability and performance of business systems.

Help develop system availability and performance KPI’s.

Recommend and support Event Management process improvements.

Provide capacity planning and performance metric analysis and reporting through ITOM. Develop documentation supporting the event management and monitoring environment, including corrective action for defined events.

Create technical environment reference diagrams and related documentation for event monitoring platforms.

Work with ITIL process owners integrating Event Management with Incident, Change & Problem management processes.

Problem Management: Develop reporting and action plans based on system monitored events, identifying problems and potential root causes.

Change Management: ensure that all Event management changes in Production follow our Change Management process.

Assists in leading the Event management, CMDB discovery, and CI relationship vision and roadmap.

Experience Required:

3+ years’ hands on experience in delivering ServiceNow ITOM tool and process is required.

Experience Desired:

Three to five years related experience in Event management process.

Strong knowledge and ability of Server Administration across OS platforms.

Strong scripting skills on the ServiceNow platform.

Education and Training Required:

Bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering, or related discipline or equivalent work experience

Primary Skills:

Hands on experience with Discovery probes, sensors and patterns, Service Mapping configurations and Event management rules for correlation of events and alerts coming from monitoring tools.

Hands-on MID server configuration experience and architecture understanding.

Additional Skills:

Experience designing integrations between ServiceNow and third-party systems: Azure, AWS, Microsoft SCOM, Oracle OEM and SolarWinds, including use of ServiceNow’s Integration Hub and / or custom APIs.

Experience with improving Discovery performance and coverage including Service Mapping.

Experience is building effective ServiceNow dashboards for service owners and leaders to show accurate and up to date results.

Service Mapping Practitioner certification.

Experienced with the application functions available in the ITOM Pro package CMDB and Discovery Practitioner
