Description:

REF: RP/PWA

Please note this role is for Day & Night Shifts.

Our really friendly, positive client is looking for a Support Worker to join his established, supportive care team. He would love someone who shares his great sense of humour, love of the theatre and days out, and having an understanding of the Gujarati and Hindi language that would be a bonus (but not essential). If you are looking for a lively role with a lovely client, where team work and professional development is encouraged, please get in touch.

The Role:

R is a 41-year-old man who lives at home with his close-knit family. He excels in the company of friendly, positive people who will help him live life to his fullest potential.

R is a full-time wheelchair user with complex cerebral palsy. He is cortically blind and non-verbal but able to express his wishes and preferences and loves to be taken out most days either for a walk in his wheelchair or in his own specially adapted vehicle. His home has a hoist.

R has his own hydrotherapy pool that he likes to access on a regular basis, and you would be expected to enter the water, alongside another experienced member of staff, to participate in helping out at therapy sessions, following his care plan to aid his rehabilitation. The water in the pool is quite shallow so although you do not have to be able to swim, you must be confident in the water.

You will be working with another Support Worker during day hours and family will be available to assist if needed at night. The full team comprises of a Team Leader and six other Support Workers.

R requires support with all areas of daily living including personal care, meal preparation, feeding, and administration of medication.

Full training in all aspects of our client’s care will be given and you will be supported by his Team Leader and Case Manager.

About You:

Experience working with a person with at least one year experience of complex care needs with clients of similar disabilities as our client, along with enthusiasm, patience and willingness to learn is preferable but if you have transferable experience please do apply.

You must be a team player who is willing to train and learn about our client’s particular needs and be respectful of working in a family home and working alongside our client’s mother who is highly involved in his care.

A driver with a full UK licence who is able to drive our client’s automatic Caddi Maxi is preferred but we would also consider applicants who cannot drive but live within a travelling distance of one hour to HA5, as long as a reliable transport link to the area is established.

Our client’s sister has a small dog who visits the home regularly so you must be comfortable around animals and have no allergies of them.

You will be a cheerful person who is flexible, reliable, calm and courteous.

You will have a positive and empathetic attitude to working with a person with additional needs living in a family home, with a passion for providing excellent care.

Pay:

There will be a probationary period of 6 months, during this period you will initially carry out 3 day shifts a week and then move on to 3 days and one night including some weekend hours whilst you learn and understand our client’s needs fully and become confident in undertaking night shifts.

This is a salaried role of £33,000 pa.

The annual salary is worked out for the first 12 months of employment and includes the probation period rate and increase in paid rate when probation is passed.

It includes the probationary shift pattern and one bank holiday worked per year.

Hours/Shifts:

Days to be worked for this role are flexible and mutually agreed between Support Worker and Team Leader as a collaborative process within our client’s team.

The rota is prepared six weeks in advance.

Day shifts will be 13 hours and are 8:00 am to 9:00 pm.

Night shifts are 11 hours and are 9:00 pm to 8:00 am with a portion of the night being a sleeping night when our client is asleep, typically from around midnight.

Additional cover could be required when the family is on holiday.
