Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Senior Veterinary Technician to join our Insourcing Solutions team, located in Bethesda, MD.

As the Senior Veterinary Technician, you will utilize your broad general knowledge of existing and proposed laws, regulations, and guidelines affecting the care and use of animals - and your competence in lab animal science husbandry, technical procedures, and facility management - to work closely with Clinical Veterinarians to perform daily health assessments of colonies, clinical observations, and health examinations of sick animals, as well as administer prescribed treatments, in addition to intermediate animal husbandry tasks.

Additional responsibilities include:

Provide environmental enrichment feed and other enrichment stimuli and/or behavioral assessments and, based off training, may provide technical assistance to non-human primates.

Provide technical support (e.g., animal handling and restraint, weaning, tail snips, ear tagging, blood and other tissues sample collection, injections, treatments, dosage calculations, surgical preparation, pre-, peri-, and post-operative observations) and assist with research procedures, as well as weaning and genotype sample collection.

Maintain accurate records of animal breeding, health, housing or support areas, and cleaning and sanitation of animal facilities and equipment.

Participate in interviewing process for new hire of technical staff and provide technical support and training to coworkers as needed. Assist with QA (Quality Assurance) of technical staff in designated areas.

Review, comprehend, and comply with all SOPs and quality assurance standards pertaining to specific areas.

Job Qualifications

The following are minimum requirements related to the Senior Veterinary Technician position:

High school diploma or GED

BS degree in Animal Science, Biology, or similar discipline; or AA in Veterinary Technology preferred

At least five years’ experience working with animals in medical research

A minimum of three years’ experience in a technical role

Eligibility to take the LATG certification exam required

An equivalent combination of education and experience may be accepted as a satisfactory substitute for what is listed.

The pay range for this position is $27 to $31 USD per hour. Please note that salaries vary within the range based on factors including experience, skills, education, certifications, and location.
