What You'll Do:

The Division of Industrial Compliance and its associated boards ensure Ohioans are safe in public buildings such as businesses, educational institutions and municipal buildings. This includes drafting and applying the Ohio Building Code; conducting appeal hearings; issuing variances to code requirements; licensing commercial contractors; inspecting boilers, elevators and bedding; and regulating ski tramways. The division has responsibility for portions of the Manufactured Homes Program, and licenses installers and parks. The division also oversees Ohio’s minimum wage, prevailing wage and minor labor law programs.

This position is intermittent/temporary and may not work more than 1,000 hours per fiscal year.

Review construction documents submitted to the Board of Building Standards for approval as an industrialized unit (IU). All IUs are new construction and are authorized for incorporation into either commercial or residential buildings.

Examines plans for compliance with the Ohio Revised Code and either the Ohio Building Code or the Residential Code of Ohio.

Plan review items may include, but are not limited to, structural systems, building wall, floor & roof/ceiling assemblies, means of egress, fire resistance rated assemblies & other fire protection systems, building services systems, accessibility, energy conservation and other systems to the extent each system is included in the IU.

Plan review processes include, but are not limited to, reviewing plans in electronic format, meeting with customers in person & remotely, generating, responding to & handling all necessary communications (letters, emails, etc) & plan authorization documents, etc.

Commerce is currently operating under a hybrid work schedule that may include both teleworking and in-person office hours. Employees must be able to report to the office when requested by management &/or for their initial training period.
