Idaho National Laboratory is hiring a Stress Analysis Engineer to work in our Engineering Structural and Seismic Analysis department. Our team works a 9x80 schedule located out of our Idaho Falls facility with every other Friday off.
Responsibilities Include:
Perform structural mechanics evaluations/analyses of the behavior of structures, systems and components under normal operating conditions, natural phenomena hazards, and accident conditions to support continued safe operation of INL nuclear facilities.
Work on unusually complex problems with national experts and provide solutions.
Analyses will be documented and may involve applying thermal, mechanical, and seismic and other hazard loads to evaluate material and system response in several environments.
Some assignments may require experimental physical testing involving test planning, instrumentation, performance, and data acquisition and assessment.
Utilize finite element analysis (FEA) Codes for linear and nonlinear analyses.
Become familiar with ASME, ASCE, and other mechanical and structural codes and their relationship to DOE requirements for safety class systems.
Use dynamic analysis and mechanical structural evaluation.
Be a technical resource to others and a liaison to other programs. Assist in our business planning and development efforts.
Advise management and potentially customers in area of technical expertise.
Supply leadership, peer review, checking, and consultation to fellow engineers.
Be a primary author on professional technical reports and presentations.
Advise on capability enhancement for lab-wide structural engineering service.
Mentor junior staff: Provide detailed checking and independent peer review of others' work; Review work and articles developed by professionals outside the Laboratory; Serve on national professional technical committees; Suggest capability enhancement and business strategy directions to manager; and author literary publications, present papers at national meetings, and develop intellectual property when applicable.
Minimum Requirements
Master’s degree, in an engineering (mechanical, civil, or related) or science degree, plus 3-6+ years of relevant experience
This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy Q" clearance, which requires US Citizenship.
