Senior HPC Systems Administrator – Digital Operations

You will be primary responsibility for the provision of technical leadership and daily management of the cluster activities, alongside mentoring of the HPC EH Team.

It is a hands-on role, you will call on your advanced Unix and HPC experience to maintain and develop the HPC platform(s) day to day operations, alongside having the opportunity to shape Baker Hughes HPC Strategy.

As a Senior HPC Systems Administrator – Digital Operations, you will be responsible for:

Developing and maintaining the overall HPC system architecture (AWS / Azure HPC / On-Prem),

Developing and maintaining HPC process documentation in collaboration with colleagues / other DT teams

Mentoring and developing the skills of colleagues to ensure the platform skills matrix has as few gaps as possible

Collaborating with HPC Team and Business to identify and manage supporting project activities

Partnering with the CTO (Technology Infrastructure) group to plan and execute all HPC infrastructure components (SW, HW, Connectivity, Storage++)

Partnering with various functional teams across the business and DT departments to support strategic enterprise vision and design for HPC consumption

Partnering with engineering delivery teams to research, design and implement the appropriate technology needed to support the application portfolio

Having a partnership with the application architecture, network, and security engineering team is critical to ensure that the infrastructure architectural principals support the requirements

Ensuring compliance with appropriate DT security, data mgt, licensing and fiscal policies, DT architectural and business eng. policies, standards / procedures

Providing expertise in HPC emerging technologies to the enterprise, while advising on the selection and use of technologies (such as GPU or Graviton computation)

Planning and lead proof of concepts in support of new technology and/or new design approaches

Providing high-level design choices and recommendations based on architecture alternative analysis

To be successful in this role you will:

Have a minimum bachelor’s degree Minimum of 8 years’ experience in infrastructure architecture, systems admin ( unix ), application dev / support and 4+ years in Managing High Performance Compute environments

Have an experience in HPC Application Skills (Ansys application suite, MPI libraries (Intel or OpenMPI), License tokens models / FlexLM licensing)

Have an experience in HPC Scheduler Skills (Required: Altair PBS Pro / Open PBS scheduler; Optional/Alternative: SchedMD Slurm, Univa Grid Engine, IBM/Platform LSF; Scheduler dynamic resources, fairshare

Have an experience in Advanced Linux System Administration Skill (Bash scripting, sssd/ldap/AD integration, Python / Perl, Unix Sysinternals, Source Compilations for OpenMPI / App Packages, RHEL

Have an experience in Cloud experience (AWS) and nice to have Azure (good to have)

Have an experience in Devops skills (good to have)

Have an in experience in Storage skiils (NetApp, Lustre, NFS / CIFS) (good to have)

Have an excellent verbal and written communication skills and extensive experience with enterprise architecture best practices and goals

Have an ability to collaborate with business and technical resources to understand and develop solutions
