SUPERVISOR, LAB - WASTEWATER DIVISION (Salary Range $28.46 / hour - $45.54 / hour) Position Summary: Provide daily supervision of the wastewater laboratory, including conducting sampling and performing laboratory analyses.

Assists with management and maintenance of the functions and inventory of the wastewater treatment plant laboratory.

This includes DHEC Laboratory Certification Programs, Standard Operating Procedures, SDS – Hazard Communication program, Quality Control/Quality Assessment program, Proficiency Testing program, and all pertinent programs for laboratory compliance and certification.

Oversees the Industrial Pretreatment and Surcharge Sampling Program.

Essential Functions: Assist with daily laboratory operation to include sample collection and analysis for all laboratory certified parameters for which maximum contaminant levels or permit limits have been established.

This includes microbiology, inorganic wet chemistry, BOD, COD, TSS, metals & other NPDES regulated Clean Water Act parameters for our plant effluent and or pretreatment industries.

Oversee and coordinate the Industrial Pretreatment Program including inspections, sampling, permitting, and monitoring of those industries that are a part of the Orangeburg DPU Pretreatment Program.

Responsible for all aspects of administration of the laboratory including but not limited to the following: Ensure regulatory sampling requirements are met, and all associated reports are completed on time.

Training of all plant personnel for lab testing, industrial sampling, surcharge sampling and quality control practices as deemed necessary for their job function.

Supervises & coordinates the Industrial Pretreatment Program.

Coordinates sampling and helps in reporting for our Beneficial Use Biosolids Program.

Generation of purchase requisitions and receipt of shipments.

Daily data review and QC validation of all process control and regulatory data generated.

Analyzes chemical, physical, and bacteriological test results, alerts plant superintendent of negative trends, and always maintain compliance.

Maintains a rigorous quality control & proficiency testing program for all operation and laboratory staff.

Responds to requests for information from prospective industries and the development commission concerning our capability to accommodate waste from potential industrial customers.

Works with our consulting engineers in these matters.

Calibrate and set up maintenance contracts on laboratory equipment and be capable of performing all analyses according to Standard Operating Procedures (SOP), process control procedures, and quality control.

Utilizes and maintains field, testing, sampling, and laboratory equipment.

Maintains a comprehensive, current knowledge and awareness of applicable policies and procedures impacting laboratory, testing, operations, Beneficial Use Biosolids Program and Pretreatment Program procedures & policies.

Assists in formulating laboratory policies and procedures.

Processes a variety of documentation associated with department/division operations, within designated timeframes and per established procedures.

Experience in the use of Microsoft Office (Excel, ACCESS, word, PPT), Cayenta, and Cityworks.

May be required to work after normal business hours, weekends, holidays, Standby Duty or be called out as needed 24 hours/day 7 days/week.

Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's Degree in Environmental Science, Biology, Chemistry or a related field required; supplemented by three years of experience in laboratory operations required; lead or supervisory experience preferred; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.

Must reside within a radius of Orangeburg, SC that allows for a 30-minute maximum response to call outs and emergencies.

Specific License or Certification Required: Must possess and maintain a valid South Carolina driver's license.

Must obtain Biological Wastewater Treatment Operator license for the following levels after date of employment: D Level within 18 months, C Level within 36 months, B Level within 54 months, A Level within 72 months and maintain an A Level thereafter.
