Matta is a New Zealand headquartered company that provides world-leading safety surfacing solutions for playgrounds, industrial, and fitness areas all over the world. We have been supplying the California market direct for more than 20 years with our warehousing and sales operation based in Wildomar, California.

Since founding over 30 years ago, we’ve been making our products in New Zealand from recycled and recyclable materials. We pride ourselves on our quality product, innovation, sustainable approach to manufacturing, and fantastic relationships with our global customers.

We have a nimble leadership and sales team servicing North America, New Zealand, Australia and the United Kingdom. Sales are a mix of direct and indirect channels, with a key focus on providing great customer solutions and building long term relationships.

About the role

We have been selling playground safety surfacing in California for over 20 years, through distribution and our subsidiary company, Matta, LLC.

We have product installed throughout California, with thousands of City and School District run playgrounds across the state. With a desire to grow our presence in Northern California, we are now seeking an experienced salesperson who is passionate about sales to represent lead and drive our North California Market.

Key aspects of the role include:

Working alongside our National Sales Manager and developing and driving a sales strategy that includes prospecting new customers and achieving new B2B and B2G business - including with School Districts, Cities, Landscape Architects / Specifiers and Private Education Providers.

Maintaining our existing North California customers, prospects and leads and propagating for growth.

Visiting customers and customer sites, performing site measure ups, building quotes and closing sales;

Project/Job management, which will include working closely with installation contractors to ensure deadlines are met and quality objectives are achieved.

Leading and maintaining Matta’s reputation in Northern California as a solution focused and quality playground surfacing provider; and

Regular sales travel within California.

You will receive direct support from our USA Sales Manager (Wildomar, CA based) and Auckland NZ based head office.

About you

You will excel in this role because:

you have a proven record as a successful salesperson, and are passionate about business growth and project management;

you’re motivated and a self starter looking for a genuine long term opportunity that you can build on and manage;

you are self directed and have a strong work ethic and disciplined approach to what you do;

you’re an entrepreneurial and strategic thinker, but know how to look after the details;

you’re comfortable with working autonomously and look to be rewarded for your own efforts, but appreciate being part of and working with a support team;

you’re practically minded and a good problem solver. You'll be able to co-coordinate and oversee our installation teams;

you have worked in B2B and B2G sales and understand the complexities of Federal / State funded sales and procurement processes;

You live and are willing to travel throughout the Northern California region (with occasional trips to our Wildomar, CA office).

Ideally you will have experience in the playground or parks and recreation industries, although not essential.

Remuneration will be a combination of base salary and commission, plus car, phone and expenses.
