Department Profile

The Finance Division reports to the Chief Financial Officer and consists of some 3,000 employees worldwide. Finance protects the Morgan Stanley franchise by serving as guardian of the Firm's books and records, and by contributing to firm wide risk management and risk reduction. This division maintains relationships with Morgan Stanley's various industry and government regulators, and serves as the conduit of financial information to the outside investment community. Finance plays a critical role as advisor to Morgan Stanley's various businesses and its senior management team.

Job Overview

The VP of SEC Reporting manages a team of 4-6 professionals responsible for the production and filing the Firm's consolidated financial statements with the SEC on Forms 10-K and 10-Q. The SEC Reporting team is also responsible for coordinating responses to SEC comment letters, assisting with the preparation of the Firm's quarterly earnings press release, assisting with shelf registrations and proxy statements, and participating in the standard-setting process for new accounting rules impacting disclosures and the consolidated financial statements.

Primary Responsibilities

- Produce and review various sections of the Firm’s consolidated financial statements, which are filed with the SEC on a quarterly basis, in a well-controlled, accurate and timely manner.

- Assist in the preparation and publication of the Firm's quarterly earnings press release.

- Assist senior management's decision making by providing peer analysis of relevant disclosures, tracking evolving SEC and FASB disclosure requirements, and monitoring key industry reporting trends.

- Effectively communicate key disclosure items to senior management, including in quarterly due diligence and other meetings.

- Ensure the SEC Reporting team maintains a collaborative and effective working relationship with data providers and stakeholders to help ensure accurate disclosures and strong internal controls.

- Understand and partner with Morgan Stanley businesses to provide relevant, accurate and decision-useful public disclosures around business trends and developments.

- Maintain a transparent and efficient 10-K and 10-Q production process with strong controls, due diligence, and documentation.

- Seek to automate processes and make efficient use of digital tools.

- Effectively manage and maintain a highly motivated, skilled, dependable, and diverse team.

Qualifications

Skills required (essential)

- 7-9 years of experience that includes significant involvement in financial reporting.

- B.S. in Accounting (or equivalent) and CPA are required.

- Proven leader with strong interpersonal and management skills.

- Strong technical knowledge and control focus.

- Financial Services/Securities industry experience is a plus.

Expected base pay rates for the role will be between $110,000 and $190,000 per year at the commencement of employment. However, base pay if hired will be determined on an individualized basis and is only part of the total compensation package, which, depending on the position, may also include commission earnings, incentive compensation, discretionary bonuses, other short and long-term incentive packages, and other Morgan Stanley sponsored benefit programs.
