We are seeking an HVAC Controls Technician to join our federal team based at the Ronald Reagan Building and International Trade Center in downtown Washington D.C. This role will be responsible for the Preventative Maintenance and Repair Services for the next 21 years as a follow-on to a large Energy Saving Performance Contract project that our team just completed that will reduce consumption of energy by 42% and water by 50%, and will reduce greenhouse gases by more than 20,000 tons annually – the equivalent of removing 4,500 cars from the road each year (to learn more about this project, click here).

Shift: Primarily works day shift hours, Monday-Friday.

As a Controls Technician, you will:

Under minimal supervision, perform preventive maintenance, repair, installation, commissioning, point-to-point checkouts, calibration, troubleshooting and/or replacement of HVAC controls systems & equipment, and building control systems. These include air handling units, central plant chilled water and hot water systems, metering, and terminal units (VAVs, FCU, etc.).

Collaborate with on site M&V Engineer to proactively identify and correct issues that effect energy savings. This includes reviewing equipment operations from the system front end and the utilization of SkySpark with Fault Detection and Diagnostics (FDD) software.

Diagnoses and repairs complex control systems requiring extensive knowledge of a variety of electronic or digital controls systems and ability to test and write modifications in multiple languages of systems software.

Test and perform modifications to systems software when needed

Assist with sketching and documenting field changes and discrepancies for engineering corrections and drawings

Provide training and associated manuals and documentation to customers on electronic control systems operations

Provides support to mechanical staff to troubleshoot issues

Ensure work performed complies with company, state, local and federal regulations, industry standards and guidelines, and customer requirements

Compile project documentation, such as equipment preventive maintenance checks, certificate of completion, customer training forms, training certificates and punch lists

Conduct self-study (reading, research and practice) to improve and maintain technical proficiency in company's product lines; completes certifications as required

Read and properly interpret blueprints, diagrams, submittals, specifications, software/systems programs, schematics and operational product manuals

Adhere to Johnson Controls and customer safety standards, provide safety awareness leadership and instruction to technicians and subcontractors on Johnson Controls work sites

Required Qualifications:

Experience servicing Building Automation and Control systems (DDC controls) and HVAC equipment. 5+ years preferred.

Knowledge of a variety of electronic or digital controls systems, HVAC controls systems, facilities management systems, site preparation, peripheral equipment installation and servicing techniques

PC experience required; ability to program HVAC related software preferred

Experience working with BACnet and Modbus protocols.

Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret security clearance required. (This involves a background/character, criminal history, employment, and credit check.)

Preferred Experience:

Experience using Fault Detection and Diagnostics (FDD) software.

Experience with SkySparks or other analytics tools.

Tridium Niagara Certification

Programming and/or troubleshooting various brands of HVAC controls products is highly desired (Metasys, Tridium Niagara, Apogee, Distech, Carrier, ALC, Andover, etc)

Experience with BAS communication protocols; BACnet MSTP, BACnet IP, N2, P1, Modbus, LON, etc

Proficiency with Johnson Controls Metasys® or Tridium® Niagara® Direct Digital Control (DDC) system highly preferred

Experience using SMP, SCT, and/or CCT

Preferred Education:

Associate degree (or equivalent experience) in electronics, mechanical systems, computer technology, air conditioning
