Direct Support Staff and Professionals must be reliable, honest, polite, and enjoy working with people with differing skills and abilities. The ideal candidates should have experience as a Direct Support Professional (DSP), caregiver, or CNA, or a background in mental health and support This job requires out-of-the-box and creative thinking skills to provide those served with the most opportunities possible. Being flexible is also imperative. Working in their residential homes and supporting them in their day services is part of the job. Ensuring their basic needs are met is just the start of the services an employee is expected to and is privileged to provide. A person must have caregiving skills and find value in helping and serving others. Consistent attendance, being on time for scheduled shifts, being self-motivated, ability to communicate verbally and in writing, and typing skills are also necessary as documentation is required in all areas of this work.
