POSITION: SURVEY INSTRUMENT TECHNICIAN

REPORTS TO: DEPARTMENT MANAGER

GENERAL QUALITIES:

- Strong verbal and written skills.

- Has excellent Microsoft Word and Excel. Ability to navigate through company internet-based systems.

- Proactive self-starter capable of setting a positive example for the staff.

TECHNICAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

- Possess general knowledge of land surveying principles and practices and must be able to perform under the direction of the Survey Crew Chief and assist in the coordination of field activities, Including the effective operations, performance, and maintenance of all survey equipment.

- Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with our staff and the public.

- Responsible for loading survey equipment into vehicles for transport to sites, ensuring that all necessary equipment is included and is in proper working order.

- Responsible for assembling and dismantling equipment, setting control ties, and obtaining pipe sizes, inverts, and record measurements.

- Require moderately strenuous tasks, such as lifting, carrying instruments weighing up to 50 pounds over rough terrain, and may also require clearing vegetation, dig holes, pound stakes with a sledgehammer, and operate hand and electric tools.

- Performs other duties as assigned.

- Responsive to Client and other KSE Department needs.

Requirements

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

- Bachelors Degree Preferred, Field of Study: Land Surveying, Civil Engineering, or similar degree type.

EXPERIENCE:

- At least 10 years of hands-on experience in executing and managing land surveying projects for roads and highways, bridges, railroads, and airport facilities.

- Land surveying license in states of New Jersey, New York, and Pennsylvania.

- Familiarity with agencies standards and protocols, including NJDOT, NYSDOT, PANYNJ, and NJTA, as well as those of local municipalities, is a plus.

- Experience in Project management, preparing technical and cost proposals, and understanding of QA/QC procedures is desirable.

- Actively participates in professional development and training and licensing.
