Alma San Juan is a 56 room luxury boutique hotel, with 2 restaurants and 1 café located in the heart of Old San Juan set to open soon.

We are currently searching for Cooks.

As a cook, you will be responsible for preparing and cooking high-quality meals that meet the established standards for taste, presentation, and food safety. Your culinary skills and attention to detail will contribute to the overall dining experience for guests and ensure the success of the kitchen operations.

Responsibilities:

Prepare and cook menu items according to recipes, portion sizes, and quality standards set by the head chef.

Ensure all ingredients are fresh, properly stored, and used within the specified shelf life to maintain food quality and minimize waste.

Adhere to proper food handling and sanitation procedures at all times to prevent contamination and ensure compliance with health and safety regulations.

Maintain a clean and organized work station, including regular cleaning of equipment, utensils, and surfaces to prevent cross-contamination and maintain a sanitary environment.

Monitor cooking temperatures and times to ensure that food is cooked to the appropriate doneness and meets food safety guidelines.

Coordinate timing with other kitchen staff to ensure that all dishes are prepared and served promptly and that orders are completed accurately.

Assist with food preparation tasks such as chopping vegetables, butchering meat, and preparing sauces and garnishes as needed to support kitchen operations.

Follow proper kitchen procedures for inventory management, including stock rotation, storage, and ordering supplies to maintain adequate levels of ingredients and minimize waste.

Collaborate with the culinary team to develop new menu items, seasonal specials, and promotional offerings that appeal to guests and showcase culinary creativity.

Maintain a positive and professional attitude while working in a fast-paced environment, and communicate effectively with colleagues and supervisors to ensure smooth kitchen operations.

Qualifications:

High school diploma or equivalent; culinary school diploma or degree preferred.

Proven experience working as a cook in a restaurant, hotel, or catering establishment, with a strong foundation in cooking techniques and food preparation methods.

Knowledge of food safety and sanitation regulations, and a commitment to maintaining a clean and hygienic kitchen environment.

Excellent communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with kitchen staff and communicate clearly with front-of-house staff.

Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as required, and the ability to adapt to changing priorities and schedules in a dynamic culinary environment.

Physical stamina and the ability to stand for long periods, lift heavy objects, and perform repetitive tasks as needed in a kitchen setting.

Passion for food and a desire to continuously learn and grow as a culinary professional, with a commitment to excellence in food quality and customer satisfaction.
