Position Summary

As part of an integrated model of healthcare, the Psychiatric Mental-Health Nurse Practitioner diagnoses, prescribes medication, monitors medication side effects, and participates in the treatment proves in the field of mental health. The Psychiatric Mental-Health Nurse Practitioner functions in accordance with plans and policies established and performs duties within the medical setting as a member of the care team.

Essential Duties & Functions

• Provides direct diagnostic assessment and evaluation of patients; coordinates care with the primary care physician; participates in treatment plan reviews

• Maintains timely and accurate electronic medical record documentation on all patients including office visits, telephone calls, and hospital admissions/visits, if applicable

• Makes appropriate referrals to other facilities for further testing, diagnosis, treatment and follow up care; orders and review appropriate lab tests and other medical procedures

• Provides appropriate and adequate treatment to patients, with the ideal endpoint being remission of psychiatric symptoms; provides adequate appropriate and education to patients

• Participates in Peer Review and Quality Improvement initiatives

• Serves patients in a warm accepting and respectful manner; does not impose his/her values on the patient

• Periodic supervision and teaching of residents, medical students, and other allied health professionals

• Conduct individual, family, group, and medication consultation sessions, as appropriate

• Other duties as assigned.

Required Education, Certifications, Licenses, & Training

• Graduation for an accredited ARNP certification program focusing on psychiatric-mental health care

• Current BLS Certification

• Valid and unencumbered State of Florida ARNP license

Required Years of Experience

• Minimum of (3) years’ experience as an ARNP, preferred

• 1 year experience providing mental health services in a community-based setting, required
